When things went downhill...

After leaving Venice, all the highlights of the trip went downhill because so many things went wrong afterwards. Once we arrived in Milan it was late so the buses weren't running to Bergamo. We decided to take a taxi but this ended up costing us nearly 100 euros. Andrea and I didn't know if we needed to pay only in cash for the hostel. If that was the case we couldn't afford the taxi. For some reason Andrea and I decided we could barter with the Italian taxi driver, this was a bad idea. He got upset when we only gave him 45 euros. 😊 He ended up coming inside the hostel with us yelling loudly and we scrambled to find someone to translate. I could only understand "polizia" and I knew that didn't sound good. Finally, we found out we could pay with a credit card for the hostel so we had to give the taxi guy all of our cash. I have never been more scared in my life since I couldn't understand what anyone was saying.

Andrea and I finally went to bed really late after calming down. We both set our alarms for 4:40am to catch our flight to Seville. Andrea never heard her alarm and the time on my watch somehow changed so my alarm never went off. Therefore, the one morning when we HAD to wake up we didn't. I woke up at 6 am and began to panic. Andrea and I rushed out of the hostel in search of a taxi. We didn't know how to use any pay phones so we ran all over in search of anything that was open to ask someone to call a taxi for us. We found a bar and the man nicely (probably confused by our panic) called a taxi. We finally arrived at the airport 15 mins before our plane was supposed to leave. Unfortunately, this was too late. They wouldn't rush us to the plane. Ouch. We spent the next hour trying to figure out if it was better to catch any flight to Spain and find a bus to Seville. In the end, we had to wait until the next morning to catch the only flight back to Seville. I let myself cry in the bathroom and then Andrea and I prayed and vented to one another.

The time in the airport lasted forever. Andrea and I walked to a mall and shopped for three hours. The mall had H&M! Then, we decided to wash our hair in the bathroom because it had been awhile since our last shower. Once again, this was a bad idea. I closed the bathroom door for privacy and in Italy the door for the public bathroom needs to stay open. Therefore, the security guards immediately suspected something. We were able to wash our hair quickly, besides the many disgusted stares by the other women, and then we tried to dry our hair with the hand dryers. At this time the security guards kept pacing outside and talking angrily in Italian. I knew they were made at us but I wanted clean, dry hair. Andrea and I both finished promptly before the head of security came. He saw we were leaving and hopefully realized we weren't a problem. We walked out of the bathroom with our heads down and avoided all the security guards who were now glaring at us in the hallway. Oops.
The rest of the day seemed to drag. We got kicked out of the airport at midnight and had to sleep in a warehouse. I slept next to a cocaine addict and across from an older woman who did not like me. Around 3 am I started shivering so my feet were tapping. The woman got up and yelled at me in some language and pointed to my feet. The night was so bizarre and I didn’t sleep much. The important thing is Andrea and I made our flight to Seville! The Lord blessed us with protection the whole trip.

oooooo
Yeah, I could have told you about the bus schedules. Did you buy that Lonely Planet yet? The bus schedules should be inside. You see Ryanair's flights are cheapest when you can't get to the airport. That's why it's the cheap flight. If you are going anywhere else and want help with that scheduling let me know, I don't want you to have to experience that again. Oh yes, and there should be later trains and things from Milan to Bergamo, they just stop through. Praise the Lord that it all worked out.

This sounds like a similar experience I had! Oh...the adventures of traveling. Sometimes I think you just have to experience it for yourself!
