Adam and The RIg
Leaving North Carolina It didn't seem like we were ever going to finish tying up loose ends but we did. Maybe we just threw in the towel, but whatever. At 2:45 yesterday after noon we fired up the rig and headed up Murrayhill for the last time. And at 3:01pm we got on 85 south. The journey has begun.
I couldn't speak for at least an hour except for an occasional, "uh huh" when Adam would say, "Isn't this great!" I don't know why, maybe it was disbelief, or maybe I was soaking it all in. Probably a little bit of both. I have to admit, I teared up. Goodbyes are always sad. And although I was not a huge fan of Charlotte, I did enjoy greatly the friendships that I made.
Our first stop was in Lincoln, Alabama. This was the first time I cooked in the RV. It was fine, just a little less space. I kept it simple. I made Speghetti and bacon...A carbonara. Yes, I got fancy. I thought it tasted pretty good, considering you can taste the plastic from the water. We have a nice water purifier, I guess I didn't purify long enough. Oh well. It
was edible.
Adam took a little nap and I cleaned up, and sat down with the map and the laptop. I needed to find a Walmart for us to boondock. We had wanted to drive further, but it was late, and we had a late start leaving Charlotte. I found one 10 miles from where we were.
So, thats where we slept. In a Walmart parking lot in Pell City, Alabama (30mi East or Birmingham). When we woke, we figued out that we were confused to the time. My phone read 8:30am and Adams watch and computer, read 9:30. We had crossed into another time zone. Sounds creepy. Anyway, thats only odd, because we didn't know we had done it.
As we were preparing to leave our Pell City Walmart, Adam took a look under the hood. Our Alternator belt was going. So here I sit at 11:20 or 12:20, I think its 11:20, at a garage in Pell City. We have replace ALL our belts. Should cost us a few hundered dollars. Well at least its near 60 degrees outside.
And so the journey goes................
