After a couple of days R and R on the beach, my friends and i headed off to Heirisson Island in Perth on Sunday for the annual Good Vibrations music festival. 15,000 other people also made their way to the event and the atmosphere was great. Fat Boy Slim played us out, and after around 7 hours of dancing the next day definitely called for some more of that R and R.

Two days ago i popped into Perth City to have a look around and open my Australian bank account. On the way in we drove through Kings Park. This is the biggest inner city park in the world, including Central Park in New York, although most of it is bush which i'm not too sure i'd be brave enough to walk through! The roads through Kings Park are called 'Honour Avenues' and all alongside the roads Eucalyptus trees have been planted and in front of each one there is a plaque honouring the service men and women who died in the World Wars, Korean War or Vietnam. There is a great view of Perth from the park, and Perth's very own 'Perth Eye' (which to be honest is not much bigger than your average fairground ferris wheel...!). I knew that Perth was a small city, but i was really shocked to see just how small. There was about 4 main business streets and a couple of commercial shopping streets and every other shop seemed to be selling Australian souvenirs! After finding and bank and opening an account we popped into a Belgian pub and had a beer before driving back to Fremantle. We settled for fish and chips in front of a movie that evening. A rare night off.

I couldn't believe it when i woke up yesterday morning and the sky was overcast and grey, this is not what i came here for! The heavens eventually opened and didn't stop for the majority of the day. I took this opportunity to stay in my comfy clothes with a cup of tea planning the next stages of my travels away from the rain. We still had our evening's outing to look forward to though as last night we went to see Cirque de Soleil perform their latest show, Dralion, under a Big Top in Perth. I have never seen Cirque de Soleil before and i don't think i managed to pick up my jaw from the ground throughout the entire performance! It was amazing!

Today the sun is shining again and my friends and i are spending the day preparing food and drink for our boat cruise tomorrow evening along the Swan River. The weather forecast is looking good so hopefully no more rain!

Lots of love from Fremantle, WA

Danielle xx
