Hello
So it´s been a while since we last added a blog - mainly because we´ve just been chilling and making the most of our last few days! From Iguazu we took a 5 hour bus to a nice small town called Posada and spent a day there in order to break up the journey a little! From here we took an overnight bus (15hrs) to Argentinas "Second City" - Rosario.
We found a lovely hostel right next to the river where we kept deciding to stay "Just one day longer!" We had planned to jet down to the East Coast of Argentina and spend a few days on the beach, but after slowing down for a day or two by the river we decided that the beach would be no better....and a heck of a lot more expensive!
The guy who ran the hostel was also really nice, and after a couple of days, made us change rooms....We were a little put out at first as it meant gathering all our rubbish together and repacking our bags. It wasn´t until he opened the door to our room with a huge grin that we realised he was doing
us a huge favour - not only was our new room much bigger and brighter, but we also now had our very own balcony looking out on to the beautiful plaza below - A blacony to sit and drink wine on, my Nanna really would be proud!
Just as we finished eating our dinner in the hostel one evening we were joined by a lovely couple from Buenos Aires. It turned out to be quite a bazarre evening and despite the fact that they spoke about as much English as we can speak Spanish we somehow managed to converse all night and have quite a laugh! And just as I was thinking how nice these people were and how much we strangely had in common, they asked if we wanted to join them for a stroll to get ice-cream............"Hell yeah!" That´s my kinda thing, Ice-cream at 1 O´clock in the morning!!!!!!!! We were a little doubtful that we´d find somewhere at that time, but we were wrong, the "Heladerias" (ice-cream parlours) turned out to be the busiest places around!
Dan - Yes, Nic was pleased!! After that we decided that it would be nice to perhaps go for
a drink or two at a local bar (or so we thought) after walking the streets trying to find a place we were told about a ´hip´ place down the road that plays Electro music, so we get there and get through the door to find out that it´s not a bar as such but a Sweet shop by day and ´cool´ hang out by night, it was wierd, sweet counters next to Beer taps, pis*ed up locals sucking on lolliepops!!. Anyway it was crap so decided to make a sharp exit to what I can only describe as a karaoke Bar. Not only did they sing along to Tango songs (which to us sounded suicidaly depressing) but when they did get to an old swinging English song that we knew, they Murdered it by singing them in Spanish!!.
So we´re rolling along having a good ole time, when it´s time to order the drinks. We all agree that a bottle of wine is a good idea, so the waitress firsts brings a 36 peso bottle (after promising a 24 peso bottle) naturally we're backpackers and after just spending a lot for Ice-cream a little earlier we bulk at
the inflated price and she comes back with the 24 peso bottle (The girl nodded in agreement!!) (bare with me). So great, cheaper bottle, money saved! (our palettes have been well and truley burned away already by the amount of cheap ´goon´ that we´ve drunk in the past few months since Australia!).....So ´Salute´ wait a minute matey´s glass is empty, he´s only poured three and has a look of thunder on his face, "Are you ok?" Nic asks, he then proceeds to argue with the girl in fast & ferocious Spanish!! she then says to us in broken English, "Sorry he does not like this wine, and wanted the expensive one, he refuses to drink it!!!!" so he sits thier sulking, like really sulking, muttering to himself and throwing daggers at his misses. We felt very CHEAP, especially when he ordered a bottle of the expensive stuff just for himself!
Nic - It was a bit uncomfrotable but we tried to sing along and lighten the mood, until of course Dan was offered a glass of the good stuff and asked what he thought.....In a bid to sooth the guys temper a reply of "Mmmmm, much smoother (with sign
language to aid his cause!), the other´s rough in comparison!"......Yeah well done Dan, very diplomatic!!!...Yet another barrage of ferocious spanish hurled at his poor girlfriend!
Dan - So what have we learned from this? Don´t choose cheap wine in the company of those who come from a country where good wine virtually runs through their veins!!.
So after some much deserved relaxation, long lay-ins, croissants and coffee for breakfast, afternoons in the sun and huge ice-creams to cool of in the heat, it was time to roll back to Buenos Aires to catch our flight to Brazil on Saturday morning.
More from then
