G'day from Australia!

After a teary farewell with Mummy at Heathrow Airport i boarded the A380 Airbus to Perth. My stopover was at Singapore 12 hours and 40 minutes later, and i was very lucky in that i got off one plane and hopped onto the next which meant that i didn't have to hang around the airport long. 5 hours and 5 minutes later i touched down in Perth. Immediately i felt the heat of 30degrees and had to start de-layering! I was picked up from the airport by 3 friends and it was so nice to see familiar faces after such a long flight. That flight is worth every minute for the beautiful reward at the end of it which is Australia.

After putting my bags in the car, not knowing where we were going, i was told that when we got home i wouldn't have time for the shower that i was so longing for, as we had a quick turn around to be on time for my welcome surprise. 'GETTING ON ANOTHER PLANE????' yep, but this one was much more fun. We headed out to a little private airport just outside of Perth and found the Rottnest Island Taxi that was going to fly us over Perth and the 19km of sea separating Rottnest from the Mainland. The plane was tiny and clearly battling against some strong winds, but 12 minutes after take off we landed safely on Rottnest Island.

Rottnest Island is home to the quokka, and sure enough they were ready and waiting to great us at the airport. So i understand, the Dutch discovered Rottnest and when they came across the quokka which really looks like a giant hopping rat, they named the island after them.

So really i have nothing to report apart from the fact the for the last 2 days i have been cycling (no cars allowed on the island), swimming in the beautifully warm sea, snorkeling with the fish and the coral, sunbathing, eating, drinking...i could go on but you might stop reading!! It's a hard life i tell you.

Now we are back on the mainland and back to reality for some, but for me it's just the beginning.

I can't tell you how energised i feel just being out here under the sun, breathing in the fresh sea air and not worrying about work (well, for the meantime!). There's something quite liberating about not knowing what you're going to do next. But i will make sure i keep you all posted.

Lots of love from Fremantle, WA.

Danielle xx
