Loved the Film Evita......

Anyway greetings from another country, So it all started with an emotional evening at the airport in Lima...We managed to find some comfy seats by the arrivals area and bedded down for the night when I assume a couple of jumbo's had touched down and a massive influx of people arrived. Now, bare in mind that most South Americans can be very excitable and passionate, especially when it comes to friends and family. All of a sudden the bystanders filling the hall began to hurry around and fight for a place at the barrier edge in front of the arrival doors, and then as the trollies were pushed through the crowd began to go crazy. Travellers were met (pounced on) by hysterical family members whaling and crying and swamping them in their arms! Well, this was all to much for Nic and when I turned to speak to her she was balling her eyes out and we both agreed that we were jealous that all these people were returning home and looking forward to our own return journey!!!!

So after an emotional evening, a night on a bench, a 5 hour flight followed by a 2 hour bus ride, we rolled up in the arty area of Buenos Aires.

Nic - Ha ha, yeah thanks for spilling the beans on me being an emotional wreck! Anyway, we found a lovely family-run guesthouse, set in an old colonial building with high ceilings and narrow corridoors, not to mention an endearing old owner, and all set in the most interesting suburb - San Telmo. Sunday was The Antiques market which didnt sound too much fun until we realised that it seemed to be a general excuse for a fun filled day, with tango dancers, painters and performers all doing their stuff for massive crowds in the narrow streets and hundreds of stalls selling arty bits and pieces. We even took a turn down one small street and came across a wider road that had been cordened off for a huge dance group. It was a really nice day and the atmosphere was so friendly and lighthearted, we really enjoyed soaking it up.

We spent another day (as usual in cities!) mooching around and gazing at the architecture (which really is quite phenominal here) and sampling a few gourmet ice-creams here and there (they certainly aren't cheap, but boy are they worth the peso's.....yyuuuummmmyyy!!)

We topped off our last day here with a traditional Argentinian meal - one that they're rightly famous for - a big juicy steak, and the best feed we've had in about a month!!! (can't wait to get home Dad for a bit more of the good stuff!)

Dan - One strange thing we did was visit a cemetary, but this was no ordinary graveyard, this is where the rich b*stards, with more money than sense, get buried. Talk about showing the world how much money you have. Each 'Grave' is a piece of art, miniature churches and hugh sculptures are built around ornate coffins. Oh Evita has one here as well, got abit bored after seeing a couple so couldn't be bothered to find hers.

So got a domestic flight up to the spectacular Iquazu falls probably the last highlight of our trip - I had a picture of this place on my computer at work, so have been dreaming about going there for a while.....can't wait!!

More soon
