The placement tests for Italian were today at 9:30. After a test and short oral part with an instructor, I was told I would be in Italian 2, which is what I wanted. That only taking a half an hour and the next activity not being till 1:30, Al and I decided to explore Rome a little bit and visit the Vatican. It was beautiful and not very full of people, unlike last time I visited. They seemed to be doing some restoration at the time too. After walking around just a bit, we walk back toward the center and head down the main street to explore some more. We found a nice piazza and a yummy pizza place, where we got thin square cut pizza for only 2.30 euro. They had all kinds of toppings, and it was quite delicious. We headed back to IES to attend a heritage meeting that allows us to see our Italian roots and possibly contact information of family in Italy. This might turn out interesting, we’ll see. Afterwards, we met up with Jordan, Al’s roommate to get our textbooks for the intensive week of Italian coming up. We had to walk to Via della Vita, which is off of a main shopping road called Via del Corso that was packed because there were a lot of sales this week. Although they said it should only take 15 minutes, it took us an hour to get there. We took a long detour to Via Vittorio Emanuale and the Pantheon and the many piazzas in between. Of course I didn’t have my camera on me so no pictures… but I’m sure I will be back to take them. We finally found the bookstore, and since we didn’t know our way around too well had to walk back to the center to the bus stop to our apartments afterwards. I was tired but everyone was going out to Trastevere with their Italian Student Companions so I went along too. We went around to some of the bars in the area but since there was over 30 of us, I decided to split away with some other people to form a smaller group. We walked around Trastevere while an Italian student named Laura showed us around the area and got gelati. So it was nice to get to see the area and learn a little bit more about it.
