Hola from Buenos Aires!
After 13 hours in the company of Qantas we were pretty happy to land in Buenos Aires (didn't get our business class upgrade - bummer!). The weather was like Sydney, but less humid. The traffic (yes Jono has started!!!) was hectic and he has now changed his opinion on Aussie drivers! We had 3 near misses on the way in from the airport alone, still at least our driver knew where he was going!!!! It was probably about that time Lea wished she had done some Spanish language classes.
Staying in an apartment in Barrio Norte (on Ayacucho / M. T. de Alvear) booked through ByT Argentina. It is exactly as described on the web - quite unusual and lots of nice old features including a dangerous lift reminiscent of the one we had in Lawson. It's in a good location with a pizza shop over the road and lots of shops and cafes in Ave Santa Fe, one block away. The footpaths are in bad repair here, but watching where you are walking is handy for avoiding the dog poo which is everywhere.
Today we walked through the town to the markets at
San Telmo, fantastic architecture and interesting market, but you need a bit of time as its pretty big. Luckily there is no space in our backpacks for purchases (Mike - your spare room is safe for now!). Leather bags are really cheap and appear to be good quality.
Tonight's big decision is whether we try the pizza shop or seek out one of those steaks Argentina is famous for!
