Yesterday was a great day! I went to the market all by myself for the first time and I managed to get what I wanted without any problems at all. I wasn't run over by any of the cars, horses or donkeys...which is always nice. I looked everywhere for school supplies and could only find one little hut in the market that was selling some pretty random stuff. Although, I did manage to find a stapler there, which is like finding gold out here for some reason. I have not seen a stapler since I have been here. I have asked the other teachers for them, but I guess they seem to get stolen quite often. I am not too sure why because I only paid 40 Lempiras for it, which is like 2 dollars. So I am very excited to have a new stapler for school on Monday. Yes, small things like this amuse me these days apparently. I still cannot find stickers here at all. I am actually getting kind of annoyed by this. It's been a week...where are they hiding the small cute stickers. Seriously.

I thought I'd be smart and have something to eat before going to the bar last night, but I was not in the mood to cook at all. For some reason, I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich. Well, instead of using a stove like normal people, I decided to be original and use the toaster oven...don't do that...it's nasty. The butter/margarine here is this hot yellowish orange colour and I truly hate it. I saw some "I can't believe it's not butter" at the supermarket and I am seriously considering stocking up on that, cause there is no way I can eat that bright weird spread they call butter, anymore. The thought of it alone is enough. Mom, it's worse than that yellow rice you use to make all the time(it had to be mentioned lol)...I'm talking it's on the same level in my books.

Poor Leann had some sushi and it ended her weekend right there. She was way too sick to come out with us last night, which sucked because this was her first weekend here and she spent it...well everyone knows how she spent it. Luckily, I didn't have any sushi...I stuck to the papusas from the lady on the corner. Yes, I buy my papusas from some random lady standing on the corner by my house. She makes them fresh right there and they are to die for. Plus it's only 10 Lempiras for 2, which is about 50 cents.

So everyone, minus Leann, went out to the bar last night. We started at Sangrias and ended up staying there until about 1am or so. Everything was good until the base guys showed up. I have already noticed that when they show up, the atmosphere completely changes from chill to frat house within minutes. The base guys here don't want to learn the language, be a part of the community, eat the food...they just want to pretend like this is the States, they run the place and be obnoxious and drunk all the time. So, like I said once they showed up it was time to go. We went to Villa Rial, it is an awesome bar. It has salsa music in the front when you walk in and people are dancing everywhere and then my favourite...you can go left through a set of doors and you have just found your way into one of those seedy rated r clubs. It's hot and kinds small but there's a bar in there and a dance floor, which is always packed. They play reggaeton, hip hop, and of course Spanish music. This is the same bar that a guy named Walter actually asked me if he could "sexy dance"with me lol.

We ended up staying at the bar until about 430am and then the lights came on and it was time to go. that is the second Saturday in a row now that I have shut down Villa Rial hmmm. The weird thing about this city is that when the bars close, there is always an after party. But not like you think. The party is at the gas station lmao. Everybody piles into cars and taxis and heads for the Texaco station to hang out there. You can order food, well I don't cause they don't have anything vegetarian, but most people get food. Then you get a six pack and sit on the curb or dance by the picnic tables. It is just really strange to be hanging out at a gas station, drinking at 5 in the morning. But everybody goes there, that's what the party is..so that's where I am...and was until 7am today lol.

But the weekend is over already. So sad. I have papers to grade and lessons to plan and yet I don't feel the urge to do any of it. I just want to lay outside in the hammock, read a book and call it t a day. I can't do that though because Charles is coming over tonight, so I can braid his hair and then do my lesson plans and the marking. So much for a relaxing Sunday int he hammock. Geez.

Life is Hard
By the sounds of the blog I just read it sounds like you are having an absolutely rotten time there. Maybe you should come home and send me back in your place. Would really like to come and visit this bar that you talk so highly about. Hope all is well with you Janet and if you want I will go to the dollar store and buy you some stickers and mail the to you.
