Tel Aviv Beach
Tel Aviv Beach Hi Everyone--
I met a professor named Yehuda from George Mason University at a cafe this afternoon and he recommended a walking tour which took me along the Mediterranean Sea to Jaffa and back through several market areas. The sea was gorgeous but extremely windy. There were several brave men wind surfing as it actually was not all that cold.
Old Jaffa is mentioned in the Old Testament and was founded by Japheth serving as a major port until Tel Aviv built a much bigger one. Japheth's father was Noah known for that big bad flood and the famous ark. The town is primarily Arab and has some very old buildings, clock tower, port and an old flea market. I had a great lunch here snacking on kabab with real humus as an appetizer. By the way, breakfast was very good despite the lack of meat. Lots of bread, cheese, yogurt and salad stuff including the best caprese salad I have had outside of Italy.
Yehuda also recommended an Israeli clog store which I luckily passed by on my way back to the hotel. My feet were aching and I likely would have needed a cab to make it
the rest of the way. Imagine a shoe even uglier than a Birkenstock but actually more comfortable. I suspect these will get me through the next two weeks.
I am attaching a couple of pictures of the sea, Bauhaus architecture which prevails here and the city skyline. I will get more pics of Jaffa and the flea markets tomorrow.
