Galway

Boxing day morning we caught a bus to Galway, on the wast coast of Ireland.
Our hostel here is lovely and has a very homely feel. We've even met a lovely Tassie girl named Hayley from Hobart (What a small world).

Galway is a great city, much smaller than Dublin but full of life. We've had a few wild nights out with the crew from the hostel, mostly from Aus, Ireland and France, which has been a lot of fun. We've also been relaxed and have spent a few evenings just snuggling up in the lounge room and watching movies.

Our last two days we spent on Inis Mor, an island of the coast of Galway. It was freeeeeezing cold (around 2 degrees) but we braved the wind and the cold for a ride around the island on bicycles. The scenery was amazing, green fields surrounded by ancient stone walls and rugged coastline. We rode to an ancient stone fort called Don Aengus whcih sits atop spectacular cliffs. We peeked over the edge and watched the sea below. We spent the night there in another hostel (for free after having met the owner on one of our nights out in Galway 😊 and in the evening drank pints and Baileys in a small Irish pub with locals and another couple from the hostel. Was fun.

Back in Galway tonight before heading to Kilkenny in the morning where we'll stay for new years.

Kilkenny
Lovely to read all about Ireland. A country I love and know well. My "stamping" ground was around Kilkenny, in Abbeyleix near Portlaoise. I always went to a farm - Dealgrove - whenever I could get time out of London. My introduction to farming - even rescued a sheep from drowning in the river! Enjoy - Love Hebe
