I'm staying at the Hahei Holiday Resort in Hahei/Cathedral Cove. Its a rather huge campsite & from the look of things kiwi's & other travelers love campervans, the place is stacked with them!

I, on the other hand definitely have the biggest & best tent around, but more about that later.

Unlike my day, the first night here was uneventful, just had a relaxing time on the beach. These beaches are really beautiful & the bays you look out on is spectacular, with little islands strewn all over the place. The only thing I'm not used to is the weather. It changes a very quickly & the wind never stops blowing!

Woke up today, tired & stiff from my long hike the previous day & a bit drained emotionally. I thought a little hike to Cathedral Cove (only accessible on foot) might cheer me up. Yeah I know, rookie mistake, especially after the day I had yesterday!

None the less, I grabbed my gear & started off on the 1:30hr hike to the cove. I thought the hike would be along the beach, but soon found myself scaling hills which then climb down to the beach. After about 30min I started missing my hiking boots. I've done so much walking on my flip-flops since I got here; I've nearly worn them through!

The path splits down to Gemstone Bay and as I'm here to explore, I ducked down the trail. It was rather cute, but nothing compared to Stingray Bay a couple of minutes further.

They mark all the trails here in minutes that it will take you to hike it. Sure enough 1:30hr later I arrived at Cathedral Cove. It really is the most beautiful beach I have ever been on in my life. As I sat there, I was hit with a big fat slap of homesickness, missing everyone at home & feeling lonely in the most beautiful place on earth. That in itself was depressing, but oh well, there's no turning back now!

The weather was a bit sketchy al day, it looked like it could rain at any moment. Which it did from I would guess about 22:00. All I know is when I woke up around 00:00 my head & feet were soaked! Die Hondehok (my tent, because it is about the size of a dog kennel) wasn't waterproof! Some of my stuff got wet but luckily everything important was in zip lock bags. So there I was, not at all impressed with my current situation! Luckily my tent is small enough & I dragged it underneath the roof by the bathrooms. Well that’s just the way it goes, roll with the punches!

Argggg... The wetness!
Mmmm... Might've been a good idea to get a proper expedition tent before setting out for the wilderness that is NZ ;-) I'm soooo jealous!
