Our trip here was everything any traveler hopes for. Alex packed a small duffel bag, I packed my backpack and a purse/tote thing. I still can’t believe I got a weeks worth of stuff in one backpack (including my business text book, flat iron, laptop, and sandals!)...sometimes I impress myself.... Cassandra, the most girly girl I know, questioned how we’re friends.
With no luggage to check, we got to skip the line, check ourselves in, had enough time to use the restroom, eat, and buy a few things for the flight. The plane was on time, we were in Mexico in four hours, didn’t have to wait for luggage again, no wait at customs, and met a guy outside of the airport holding a sign with Alex’s name on it to take us to our reserved rental car.
I can’t think of one thing that would have made it more perfect. Well, maybe a free upgrade to first class. eh? eh?
We flew Northwest airlines and even that impressed me. I don’t remember the last time there was actually room down the isle to not only walk, but let someone pass you, and lots of leg room.
Alex, who’s knees are usually cramped up to his neck, had a couple inches of spare room.
Once we arrived, we ate dinner, had one margarita that was the smallest, tastiest, and most potent margarita I’ve ever had. We wound up falling asleep around 7 or 8 and slept for 12 to 13 hours. It was very nice.
The beds here have a cement base instead of a box spring, so that doesn’t make for very comfortable sleeping. The water isn’t drinkable, instead there’s a water cooler for making coffee, brushing our teeth, drinking, etc. The shower water is really hard and drying the heck out of my skin and hair.
Yesterday I worked on my savage tan and Alex snorkeled. By savage tan, I mean I laid out in the sun, but will return home just as pale as I came. He said he saw a lot of turtles.
Last night, the sun was setting, and we walked hand in hand down the beach. Someone really should have paid us to be on a postcard or something. Complete kodak moment.
We went diving this morning. I was face to face with a sea turtle
concrete bench on our patio
the table and bed frame is also concrete.....so comfy. and could have touched it if I wanted. He didn’t mind me at all. We also saw a couple lobster and a swimming moral eel. I’ve never seen one swimming, just poking our of rocks hissing at us. I’m sure, if you could hear under water, it would be hissing, anyway.
Alex couldn’t clear his ears so he followed us from above and then eventually just got back in the boat. I wish he could have came down with me. I had trouble clearing my ears, per usual, but once I was down there, it was a breeze.
Tried snorkeling today. Not a big fan. Did see a good sized sting ray and a few squid, which I had never seen before. Not overly impressed, I left Alex to snorkel and went back to work on the “tan”. Now it’s raining. Hey, even a rainy day in Mexico beats a winter day in Michigan! Right? Right!
We’re in the mood for crab so we’re going to head out in a bit to see what the city of Akumal has to offer. I’m very much so looking forward to that.

One of these days, I'm going to go to Mexico and the first thing I'm going to do is send you a text message telling you where we are and asking what the first thing we should do is.... because I have a feeling you'd be the one that knows. :)
