We went rafting in the Chili river about 30 mins outside of downtown Arequipa, set in a beautiful farming valley. The rapids were graded 3 and one 4. The river was dotted with beautiful waterfalls that we would row under. We travelled a total of 6km in about 1 hour and 40 mins, with a little snack stop half way. At some of the more dangerous rapids we got out and walked along the bank because a few years ago a rafter had got stuck in an underwater cave and died in the area.
For my first time rafting I had an awesome experience. Our boat was full of excited comradery and high adventure. I was in the front when we went down the big grade 4 rapid which felt like a wet n wild roller coaster ride. There were a couple of crashes and once myself and Kim were thrown overboard. I was rescued quickly but Kim floated down the rapids and was rescued some time later. Safe and sound though.
There are heaps of great photos so check out all the pages.
PS. Yesterday, 8th dec, during my morning spanish class there WERE EARTHQUAKE TREMORS. I
was on the second floor and the whole house was shaking and rattling and there was this massive earth rumbling grumbling sound. We had to run down stairs, where its safer and wait for it to stop. Just the day before we were all talking about earthquakes and now Ive had my first.... hehe.
