This is the result of my ear candling. Look at the material to the right of the plastic gromit. This is the contet of my inner ear... yuck!!
Wow what an exceptionally humid night - the air conditioning seems to be struggling to keep up with the temperature so it was not easy to sleep, however once again at 3.00am both Andy and I were in the wide awake club.

Andy got up and made a cup of tea, then wrote the blog for yesterday. By 4.00 we were trying to get back to sleep. I do not remember the jet lag being this bad last time we were here.

Finally getting back to sleep we overslept again and awoke at 9.30, we both dozed for a while however needed to get up as I had an 11.00 appointment for my ear candling (Hopi).

If it makes any of you feel any better we awoke to a crack of thunder and the sound of rain outside. In fact at the time of writing this it is still raining. 3.00 in the afternoon and there is no sign of any let up. Actually that may not be quite true we just heard on the BBC News that the South China Sea had a tropical storm but it has been downgraded now.

My sister in law said how good ear candling was, and she was right. I thought that you would feel candle wax dripping into your ear but that was not the sensation. You can feel them putting something into your ear and then for a while sound is muffled (you cannot hear the therapist speak properly which makes the language barrier slightly more difficult). I am not sure if you can actually hear the burning. There is very little candle wax which seems to drip down into a tube which is melted by the outer wrapping being set alight. Not sure how that really works yet, but that is the closest that I can come to an explanation. We will attach a photo of how the finished items look.

Apart from the obvious effects of having your ears ‘cleaned’ the room was darkened with low light and very calm bird tweeting and harp music. I also had neck shoulders and head massage. My left shoulder being very sore when she started to pummel it which must be weeks of stress built up. The massage around the ears and the area around the ears was amazing, you would not think that there would be much to massage around there but you could really feel the benefits of it. Excellent for asthma and catarrh apparently.

Followed by a cup of cleansing herbal tea, which I think Andy had a cup of whilst he waited for my 45 minute treatment to finish.

I felt very relaxed coming out of there and probably promptly ruined it all by having a cup of coffee and a Starbucks cinnamon bun.

When we came back to the hotel I went to the gym for an hour - looks like no swim today because of the weather although the rain should not really matter, as you will get wet in the pool anyway.

Andy had a nap and right now we are looking at what to do next. The rain has not been a problem today, it is so lovely to do nothing and catch up on resting and our thoughts. The 3.00 am thoughts contain some anxiety regarding the next part of the trip and the pain of leaving people back in England, however the daylight brings things back to normal, we are both very positive about the next step and are looking forward to arriving in Brisbane on Wednesday.

We have walked along the boat quay this afternoon (in the rain - still wearing shorts and t-shirts) and up to Clarke Quay - we had a very rip off priced cup of coffe and half pint lager. We looked for an indian restaurant that we went to last time as we wanted an early dinner. However it was closed so we grabbed a cab and went up to Little India to find a curry. However when Andy spotted a curry house I decided that it was very basic as a guy came outside and sat down with his curry in a large leaf and no cutlery. I am not quite reduced to eating food in that manner yet!!

We walked around Little India which was very pleasant, loads of backpackers here. We found a little restaurant on called the Countryside Cafe (nice name for a real Indian Restaurant), sat on a pavement table and ordered ourselves a decent curry with all the trimmings at an excellent price s$30 for the whole meal.

Things to know about Singapore - chewing is illegal in this country and is completely banned - you cannot buy it and the clean streets benefit from this.

One thing we noticed is that they seem to change the direction of the escalators on a nightly basis - we do not know why, but clearly this stops people behaving like sheep. It may be confusing after a gin and tonic or two! Or does someone have a sense of humour.

We are trying to make the blog as interesting as possible for you, but please bear with us - we will not give you a complete run down of our day every day - i.e. pretty sure that you do not want to know what we eat every day, it will settle down once we are in Australia and the pace may slow up for a while as we get ourselves sorted out.

Until the next time bloggers.

missing you all very much

Caroline (& Andy)
