Fish Spa Treatment
Garra Rufa fish "Doctor Fish" doing their work. We awoke at 3.21 am as we were in the wide awake club, an electric storm was illuminating the sky which was spectacular, but no rain. When we ventured outside from our air condition bed room, the humidity and heat at this time in the morning hit you like a comedy frying pan in the face. An hour later came the rain, and boy does it rain.
We dozed off to sleep at around 6.00 am, and re awoke at 10.30.
We set off in to Singapore for breakfast, (thank god for Starbucks) and had the pleasure of engaging in to conversation with a Singaporean Guy (Jackson Teo 26) who had lived in California for 12 years and had come back to Singapore to complete his PhD. We talked and talked for two (2) hours about American & British politics, the general state of the world, and he enthusiastically quizzed us about Europe which he had not yet been to, but hoped to travel to in the near future. Jackson hoped to study in the UK, as his girlfriend worked for Porsche in Stuttgart. There seem to be a lot of universities from the UK advertising here in Singapore.
There was even a display set up in the local shopping centre encouraging applications to Buckingham University and I have seen an advert for the University of Southampton in today’s Strait Times.
Around lunchtime we left Jackson, and headed for the “Singapore flyer” which is identical to the “London Eye”, fortunately this was not in Japan, or else it would be called The --------Eye. The “Singapore Flyer” was just boys stuff, through and through, a real piece of engineering. Constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Since our last visit to Singapore (2007) it is undergoing huge changes, a new financial district, casino’s, offices, hotels, are being constructed on reclaimed land, linked by a new bridge, that is completed.
We walked in to town, to find an internet café, (Chills) where we updated the blog, looked at our e-mails, and sent a couple of moon pig cards, and Skyped Jane (My sister) and John and Shirley (Caroline’s mum and dad)
(Gary and Karen) do you remember that underpass in Singapore, last time, how clean, well lit and architecturally fantastic it was and completely void of litter, the smell of urine, and people hiding in the shadows? Well the one we went in to yesterday, by City link Mall underground, (By the war memorial park, had escalators as your main transit in and out and again was well lit and impeccably clean. Loads of kids, practicing their break dancing, a couple skate boarding, and some doing their home work, littered this vast area,
Got back to the hotel, at around 5.00pm, grabbed our books and our swimming gear and headed to the pool. Neither of us managed to turn a page, but Caroline did swim, I just nodded off to sleep for and hour in the sunshine.
Showered and shaved and out for dinner, then coffee on the way home, Caroline booked the ear candling therapy (Hopi) for 11.00 am on Monday where they draw any ear wax from your ear canals. My sister, said it was a must do item on our adventure and told us of the benefits. Apparently you can donate your earwax for a church candle (only kidding).
Finally as we were drinking coffee Caroline suggested that Ito have some thought of therapy, and suggested I may like to try the fish Spa treatment, if I dare, which was immersing your feet in to a tank of water and letting Garra Ruffa fish (Doctor Fish) remove dead skin.
The fish peak away at the dead and diseased skin of bathers easing the symptoms of skin conditions, for example psoriasis and abscesses and thus increasing circulation. I was reading a Singapore magazine at the time and as Caroline, was suggesting the above I was reading an advert that said the following. (I swear this is true)
MANHOOD THERAPY “Adopts acupoint manhood therapy massage techniques together with unique blend of herbal oil for building & strengthening organ, call/sms ********** for appt” And Caroline thinks I would be interested in the fish treatment. (No way) even though there is not much for them to work with.
End Day 2
