We arrived on the mainland Fiji on October 31. It was so sad to leave the place. For my birthday, Jeff got us a couples massage on the beach. It was such a nice way to end our stay there. We took an hour long boat ride from the island to Port Denarau. What a difference! The pace here is much more like the city life. As we boarded the bus to take us to our hotel, we couldn't help but notice there were more people on the bus than we had seen on Matamanoa all week! We were definitely spoiled in our little paradise.

We took a taxi from our hotel to the downtown area, which is just 1 main street so it's hard to get lost. There are many shops there and the taxi driver warned us to stay away from the local shops. We somehow managed to forget his warning and somehow ended up in a kava ceremony with some locals. It was nice at first, but then their intentions became obvious the longer we stayed in their shop. We managed to run out of there without buying any of their overpriced stuff and made some Fijians very unhappy at us. We vowed to never do that again.

We made our way back to the safety of the Port of Denarau, where all of the tourists hang out.

Today we are going to try to negotiate a cab ride to visit the Garden of the Sleeping Giant - an orchid garden.

If anyone were to visit Fiji, one word of advice. Everything in town closes on Sunday because it is a holy day, and only opens for half a day on Saturday. So don't plan to come here over a weekend!

Till next time...
