First impressions of Rio

Flew into Rio on a beautifull 31st december, the city looks amazing from the air, being sorounded by mountains and the sea. The temperauture was a hot 34 degrees.

As promised mehalah met me at the airport and we took a 30 min bus journy to the hostel that we had booked for 5 nights. Having never been to a hostel before i didn't know entirely what to expect, but what ever i was expecting this place is better, loads of people and a really chilled relaxed atmosphere - even has a small pool!

New years eve was the first big event, and was absolutly massive, with 3 million people converging on copacobana beach for a massive fireworks display - by far the best i have ever seen, with a background of cruise ships that dock in rio for the night.

Unfortunatly in amongst the 3 million people someone managed to take my wallet, which i had emptied of cash but not of my cards - so they are now all cancelled and i'm gonna have to get the sent over somehow.

Got a few trips planned for the next few days before we leave rio - all the usual tourist things so will add them later.
