On the boat from Bali to Lombok Hi everybody!
First of all for those of you who haven't heard, we have had a change in our plans, and we will now be returning home around 3 weeks earlier than planned, on Thursday!!
Because of the change of plans we chose not to go to Sulawesi amd instead headed for the idyllic tropical Gili Islands.
Gili Trawangan & Gili Meno
We spent a few days on both of these islands.
Gili Trawangan was the more lively of the two wit some great restaurants and bars and fantastic snorkelling right off shore where you could easily spot turtles, giant octopus and thousands of fish of all colours.
My birthday fell during our stay here and we celebrated with a snorkelling trip around all 3 of the Gili Islands in a glass bottomed boat, followed by cocktails and a great bbq dinner on the beach, a pretty good way to celebrate i thought!
Gili Meno was a much more mellow place with hardly any tourists and long stretches of completely deserted beach to lay your towel on.
In total we spent 10 days on the islands enjoying the sunshime, the beautiful beaches and the fantastic snorkelling (i lost count of
Gili Meno
Perfect Island Paradise the number of turtles i swam within touching distance of!!) it really was a tropical paradise.
Cameron Highlands
After the relative relaxation of the Gili Islands we felt we needed a little more action so we headed to the Cameron Highlands for what was to be our last destination before heading to Singapore for our flight home!
We enjoyed 5 days here, trekking through the surrounding tea fields and jungle and taking tea and scones in old english pubs and cafes overlooking tea estates. We had some of the best walks of our trip here through the fairytale like mossy jungle on some of the many marked trails in the area.
We also enjoyed a great day tour which included a great jungle trek to find the huge Rafflesia flowers we had previously seen in Sumatra, swimming in a jungle waterfall, meeting the local villagers who taught us to get water from bamboo and use a blow pipe! We were also taken to a tea factory, a strawberry farm and a butterfly farm, a great but tiring day!
And that brings us to now! I am sat in an internet cafe in Singapore on our last night of
Rafflesia
The worlds largest flower this great adventure, tomorrow night we fly home back to normality, scary!
There will be one more blog to finish the story about our adventures in Singapore and our journey home but after that I'm afraid you will all have to find another way to fill your lunch hours!
Hope your all well and we'll see you very soon,
Steve and Laura. xxx

It's a good job you're coming home so soon, you're looking very skinny Laura and tanned. Cow! You'll be fattened up and as pale as me soon though! I can't wait to see you, although I might have to work out when I can venture back down to Yorkshire! Agh I am so busy, who said a PGCE was a good idea? xxx
