So we finally arrived in Beijing.............Joe and I were picking our jaws up off the ground arriving at the airport. It is beyond belief. Talk about creating an impression of a place!! We had to take a train after getting off the place to collect our bags and the journey was the equivalent of Dundrum to Ranelagh on the luas. No exaggeration. We may have something similar in Ireland (on a smaller scale onviously) in about 250 years time. 😊
The rest of the city is also amazing. We jsut had a mooch around yesterday when we arrived trying to get used to things. Drivers here are really aggressive. They toot their horns at traffic lights the SECOND it goes green.........and they seem to just drive down the streets tooting for no reason. Totally bananas. Crossing the street is a bit of a kamikaze effort but luckily they have loads of under and over passes so we don't have to engage in that too often.
We're heading up to the Bird's Nest and the Water cube just now and then meybe to Beijing zoo so might have some pictures to put up tomorrow. Our tour starts tomorrow with a trip to the Great Wall so looking forward to that.
Oh...........one last note..........the food............while what we've had so far has been yummy (well.....1 meal.....) the menu translation is priceless!!! Obviously nothing in an animal goes to waste here.............I'll leave the rest up to your imagination!!! And we had our first meal using chopsticks last night actually. While Joe was a dab hand, I provided serious entertainment for the people sitting next to us and outside the window!!!!

Hello how are you?
Hope you are both well, loved reading about your travels.........so far, actually think you are both very brave and your blogging is so funny I am going to follow you all the way now. To think Joe the further I got with you ... was Kelvingrove Park for a picnic but then how long ago was that, too many years to even think about it. Spoke to your mum today and we are going for lunch in the New Year although it will probably hard to get a date from her because she is such a busy busy woman. It was brilliant to speak to her. Hope you both have an absolutely brilliant Christmas and enjoy your comforts for the day or two you will have them. Lots of Love to you both. Lesley (oh and Tony says Hail Hail) xxxx
