Knowing we had an early start in the morning we set the alarm for 6am, a little unecessary as at 5:15 loud chanting began right outside our window. They had really cranked up the volume to compete with wedding festivities round the corner. The wedding was already in full swing as we sat eating breakfast next to the wedding gazebo & the ceremony appeared to involve a procession up the street to the brides house while loud music played & a man sporadicaly bashed a gong. We then headed off on the long drive to Takeo, for elevenses we stopped at Skuon & we tried deep fried spider. The ettiquette of eating spders is to first break off each leg until only the body is left. Most of us ate a leg or two, which tasted very like roast chicken skin, but Bol was the only one brave enough to eat the body. While a flat tyre was changed we tried some sticky rice & beans cooked in some bamboo (I know which one of the two dishes I'd have again if I saw them on a menu) & as we finished up a women came past with a plate full of spiders cooked in garlic.

GARLIC SPIDERS? Not in my lifetime.

We got into Phnom Penh in the afternoon & went to the shopping centre food court for lunch. As with most food courts the fayre on offer was rather uninspiring so we settled for pizza & got a much needed cheese fix. It was then time to get back in the van to go to our homestay in Takeo.

Spiders
Totally gross, man. I guess if one is hungry enough.. NAH! I think I'd rather eat dirt.
