Whew! After yet another uneventful flight (best kind), we met our driver who took us to the hotel. His English was only marginally better than my Thai but he did explain that traffic was very light (it was 2:00 am on Christmas Eve, after all), that it is the cold - hot season (I'm not clear on this one) and that it never snows in Thailand. Nice guy. We over tipped him as we've not figured out the money yet.

Our hotel is really quite nice for $30 / night. Has a pool and everything. Even though I once again slept through the entire flight, we figured the best thing to do was head back to sleep for a couple hours. We started out this morning at 7:00 a.m. local time - and have been offered at least 2 dozen taxi rides so far.

Bangkok doesn't seem to be a morning city - not much opens until 9:00. But if we can drag out our computer time for another 30 minutes, Starbucks opens....mmmmm....coffee.....

My cell phone doesn't seem to be working -something to do with not being registered on the CDMA network - although my signal is better here than at home. If i can figure it out, I'll post an update.

We're going to head to the Royal Palace, then to the weekend market. I think I'll need a nap after that - don't want to get too exhausted the first day. :-) We meet our tour group at 6:00 p.m. local time - and no, it doesn't appear that our fellow tour members are NOT hot Australian men afterall. Sigh. Its an all girls group. Oh, well - we'll just have to create havok in the local villages.

Merry Christmas!
Christine

All Girl Group?
Oh, right- Christine reminded me that this is public... Hi Christine! I'm really glad to hear you guys made it there safely; I've been on some 'interesting' flights and can attest that the boring ones are the very best. :) Have to say I'm surprised there's a local Starbucks... Funny about the taxi rides. I recall the same thing from Cambodia and it was finally cured by selecting on guy and just sticking with him (that way, he does all the work of chasing the others away ;) Enjoy the palace tour!
