Bargara
Landscaped foreshore We have now travelled more than 9000 kms. Fuel economy remains just under 15 litres per 100 km and we are pleased with that.
The really good news is that Rhonda has had the pins removed from her wrist and the plaster taken off. We went to Brisbane on the 8th September for the appointment with the specialist . She is now wearing a brace until she is confident enough to go without it. A physiotherapy program has been implemented but it will take a few months to get back to something near normal.
Bargara
Our stay at Bargara near Bundaberg was for three nights. The onboard satellite navigation system brought us on an inland highway rather than the Bruce as the shortest trip. We rocked and rolled a fair bit as the road was 'variable' although nothing like some of the development roads outback. The van park is on the beach although not as close to the water as at 1770. It is a little like Noosa might have been a while back. It is definitely a place we will come back and spend more time at. The waterfront at the village
Woodgate
The beach even looks good in the rain! is quite rocky but is enhanced with a nicely landscaped foreshore. There is a very good beach out the front of us . Walking/bike track along the foreshore as well.
Woodgate
Ian and Lorraine Shepherd gave us a challenge to check out Woodgate. Their son Scott told them it was a place suited to them perfectly. As we had a dowdy, rainy day to fill, Rhonda and myself drove the seventy-odd klms down there . In dreary rain we did find it a quiet little town with fantastic beaches. It is a bit like Apollo Bay without the shopping strip and just a general store, a pub, a bowls club and some good facilities on the foreshore. However, we did manage to find a lunch venue that would match any restaurant in decor and food. The day was not wasted!
Bundaberg
Bundaberg is less than 20 km inland from Bargara and so offers the extras like 'retail therapy', the movies, Harvey Norman and all the fast food outlets. A very nice city that is well maintained.
It has been made clear that you can't
Bargara
Another part of the foreshore. stay near Bundaberg and not visit the rum factory. Who are we to deny the tradition? We thought of the late John Adam as we moved around and heard how the rum was made. Tasting was essential of course! I went for neat Bundy on the rocks followed by their liqueur version. Rhonda had the liqueur with cream. Neither of us found rum a drink of choice even though it was a pleasant.
Naturally a visit to the Bundaberg Ginger Beer Factory was also compulsory and that too was very interesting. Unbelievably, they make about ten different beverages. Worth a visit.
Cotton Tree
We are great fans of the Sunshine Coast. Over the last few years, we have visited three or four times. Mooloolooba has been the favoured stopover. This time we are at Maroochydore in a caravan park in a small area called Cotton Tree. There is a flowering tree that you see in the area that is called a cotton tree.
The park is very good with frontage to a large coastal river and also a frontage to the ocean.
The real appeal
Bargara
The beach in front of the caravan park. for us is the Sun, the Sand and the Sea. With temparatures in the low to mid twenties it makes it a great place to be.
Moving Forward
Our next move is to fly home for a week on 17th Sept the day after we move to Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast. We plan to spend three weeks there after we fly back and then spend another month working our way home down the NSW coast. You might find that there are fewer publications for the next month or so. In fact, you might prefer that!
Rhonda keeps saying that although people seem to enjoy the 'travel blogs', communication seems to be one way. We are very interested in what you are doing too so please email.
