Those tides really go out! YEPPOON_KINKA BEACH
The trip to Yeppoon was about 360 km. We seem to be improving in our pack-up times because we were on the road by 8.00am and in the park set up for lunch by about 1.30pm. The trip takes you almost to Rockhampton and then out to the coast for roughly 45km. The park was small and just ok but we were put in the middle of the permanents. I don't think they really liked the intrusion!
With its reputation as a tourist destination for the Japanese and a port for prawn trawlers, we thought it would be a nice destination. Not entirely so! However, there were all the essential services in the local shopping centre and we did find a really nice restaurant at Rosslyn Bay overlooking the water. The charters go out to Great Keppel Island from there. We decided early on that we would focus on sightseeing on land for this trip so the islands are for the future. There are eaps of them and they look fantastic.
Like Mackay, the tides go out for big distances. We did some extensive walking and were amazed how quickly the tide comes in. We measured
Town of 1770
The historic town of a Captain Cook visit. about five metres in about a minute.
On Saturday we drove into Rockhampton and were staggered at the number of people in town. It is a sizeable city overlooking the Fitzroy River and known 'Cattle City'. As mentioned earlier, it is about 50 km from the ocean. 'Rocky' has a vibrant retail centre and the now classic Harvey Norman etc. line the Bruce Highway into town. We were just amazed the the number of people and the traffic. A bit like going to Southland or Chadstone. The city had a 'go-ahead' feel about it and we quite liked that.
We needed a stop-off point near Rockhampton and have decided that in future we will stop at a van park we saw that was close to town in the south.
TOWN OF 1770
Our next stop off area needed to be around Gladstone rough 200 km from Rocky. We had heard a lot of really good reports about 1770 and Agnes Waters . Bob and Jacquie Hayter had visited only weeks ago. 1770 is about 100km south of Gladstone.
Not a big town but most requisites can

A Pelican can! be had a few km up the road at Agnes Waters. It's about 9.30 am, 22 deg, and I just took a casual glance over the water to see yachts and pelicans! Idyllic! It's not your Gold Coast style beach, more the scenic style beach with a little bay.
We are in the council park right on the beach and we love it. Amazingly, as we were having lunch, a ute with a van on its tray pulled in opposite. The same people who camped directly opposite us at Kinka Beach! Taswegians from Penguin on the north coast. Could be related to Ian Raspin?
Took a trip to Gladstone today. A round trip of 250 km. On the way we went to Tannum Sands and were impressed with it as a stopover. Only 20 km from Gladstone. We planned to visit the Gecho Winery and do a harbour cruise at Gladstone. Guess what? Both closed on Mondays! Still, it's an ok city and we had Ocean Dory at the Yacht Club to ease the disappointment.
1770 is our place of choice in this area. So tomorrow we plan to wait for low tide and
