nice house
on the lake Last Sunday I went to church with Kayla and her family. There is a church that meets in the summer time and they hold services on the lake. There is a PA system on the pier, and the pastor stands on a boat and preaches into the wireless microphone. There are lots of boats that show up, and it was a pretty cool experience. Kayla's brother and his wife were there with their 2 golden retrievers too. The oldest dog is pretty laid back, but I am not going to lie by saying that I thought about it more than once to throw the younger one overboard.
Sunday night we had dinner at Kendal and Robina’s. Trish, Ben, Drew, and myself were there, and it was a great time. They barbecued for us, and afterward we ate popcorn and watched some of season 1 of The Office. For those of you who don’t know this already, I LOVE watching The Office! In fact, I just caught up last night by watching the season finale of The Office season 4.
Yesterday I drove to Tiffin, Iowa to see Jon and Kristi Miiller. Jordan Leichty drove up from Wayland and had
church
on the lake, with the cool dog... dinner with us too, and it was a great time. I saw Jordan at Aaron’s wedding a couple weeks ago, and mentioned that I would look him up when I came through Iowa. And as I mentioned before we watched the office after dinner.
Just when I was thinking today was just some random boring day, I saw the weirdest thing ever. I was just going to stop and take a restroom break, and when I pulled into the only gas station in town I saw a bunch of cop cars and a couple ambulances sitting in front of the store. And I get closer and see the front doors missing off the front of the store. A bystander tells me that a car went through the front door of the store, and that the car was still inside. I was thinking to myself that they probably got the car out of there already, but as I got closer I see the car completely inside the store! The rumor I heard was that the lady driving the car put it into drive instead of reverse by accident, hit a car next to her, drove over the curb leading into
the store, and ended up completely inside the store. I can’t see how this could be a simple accident, because I think it would take quite the effort to get that car through the double doors and completely inside the store. I could be wrong though. The one guy mentioned that the police were going to have the lady walk the line to make sure there was no alcohol involved. The only way I can see this possible is if the lady stayed on the gas and didn’t hit the brakes during the whole event. I am going to watch for the police report to come out to see what really happened. But I guess more importantly nobody was seriously hurt in the event, maybe emotional damage the worst that happened.
So then I just kept going on the interstate again, and I see a motorcycle going in the same direction up ahead. I usually check out where they are from as I go by, and I saw this one was loaded down with a lot of stuff and they had 2 people on board. As I get closer I see the all too familiar yellow license plate. As
far as I know there are only 2 states with yellow cycle plates: Oregon and Alaska. Sure enough, it was Oregon! I gave them a friendly wave as I passed them, and pointed to my license plate at the same time. I am not sure they saw it, but whatever. I never thought I would see another Oregon plate being all the way in Iowa.
So I am taking a brief break at McDonalds AKA gut bomb central. From what I hear there are showers and thunder storms in the forecast tonight, so I have my rain gear handy. But now I have waterproof gloves and boots, what I relief! I am heading to Seward, Nebraska tonight, and I will be staying with Bob and Shirley until I head to Hesston. I may end up spending a night in Lincoln, who knows. Time to hit the road again…
