1: stormy night 52 secs
Thursday 8/14/08 PM
I had to post tonight in order to use that title. I crack myself up with the amount of effort I put into these titles. So Mark left today at about 1pm. He called me about an hour later and told me his flight was really delayed and he'd be coming back for a bit. We had a pretty emotional goodbye with many final hugs and were a little worried about doing it all over again...but we couldn't really pass up the chance to spend a few more hours together. So, he came back. The kids and I had left for the park. There's this indoor playground (AIR CONDITIONED) that costs about $5 US per kid. A bargain at any price if it means they are entertained on a hot and rainy day. The rain started just as we arrived at the playground. I had my umbrella, but it was a fierce rain. I intended to stay there for a while. When Mark called, we agreed he'd just let me know when he was back and we'd meet up again (we were steps from the apartment in the park right next door). The kids had fun running and climbing. Emily didn't have socks--which turns out are required there--but they sold those knee high nylons for 1RMB. I bought her a pair and she thought they were cool. There weren't that many kids there. Especially for a rainy day. I think perhaps it was because we arrived in the later part of the day. Good to know. I imagine mornings are crowded with younger kids who then go home for naps. I sat and watched a bit and also studied my phrase book. I figure I should carry it with me and stare at it as much as possible.

Mark came and we went to the store and bought a few more household items (toaster oven and rice cooker plus some wine for ME). My first wine in my apartment in Shanghai. If not the week I'm left to fend for myself with 2 young children, when?? Again, drama intended. I will be fine. Especially now that I have 3 bottles of wine.

Tonight there is this huge and scary thunder/lightening storm going on. It started right when Mark left to return to the airport. Extra dramatic that way. I am including a video I shot from my balcony. I think it's pretty effective in showing our neighborhood on a rainy night. I have a feeling it will be a slumber party night--more for me than the kids. Nothing like 3 people in a bed of concrete to ensure a sleepless night. We haven't yet made it back to IKEA for those mattress pads. I am thinking we'll have to go while Mark's away if the pain continues. The kids are doing fine at night but my back is still really sore.

Okay, that's it for now.

The Power of Wine
Yes, i agree 3 bottles of wine should suffice while Mark is gone and kids are almost asleep! great video coverage of your nighttime scene/view-very cool! You will do great this next week and you are already thinking so brave about doing Ikea alone! I don't think I would have come home without those mattress pads the first time. You are much tougher than me! Don't forget Advil works great on the back. Good luck! Just remember school starts soon with new Mom's to meet -Hurray!

The Powa..
OMG that video is awsome! I think you and Spielberg might have something going! Great special effects and sound. Mother's "medicinal" just might be helpful. You are doing great and everything will be okay. We are all here for you. Love, Geeze
