George is 30, You'd Better Belieze It!

We'll get on to the birthday part in a bit, but first something for the trivia buffs:
Belize is officially small. It is the 150th largest country in the World
The Belizian Flag is special. It is the only national flag with human beings on it and has 12 colours on it, 3 more than any other
Is there anyone at home? It is one of the least densely populated countries in the World at 202nd and the 173rd most populous (301,270 at latest count)

So they're not the most interesting facts, but hopefully they give you a feel for the country and where it sits in the World's pecking order.

After a rather lengthy border crossing (both stamps in travel diary obtained) we were in Belize, home to a lot of trees and the World's second longest barrier reef. We headed straight for the former capital, Belize City, to get on a fast boat out to the Cayes. Our stop in BC was pretty uneventful and the only thing memorable about it was how unmemorable it was - if you catch my drift.

quick blast in a speed boat we were on Caye Caulker, our home for the next week. Known as the laid back island it certainly didn't disapoint, with the locals being practically horizontal. After a brief tour of the town we managed to find some rather swanky accomodation - pool, sun terrace, en-suite bathroom and open plan kitchen/lounge.

The main event during our stay was my birthday. Thanks to Kate's digestive system we postponed for a day and I can honestly say it didn't matter a bit... I had an excellent day, packed full of surprises. We spent the majority of the day on a boat trip with Chocolate, a local 79-year-young legend, as our host and guide. The aim of the boat trip was to see Manatees (sea cows to you and me) in their natural habitat. Although my photos are rubbish, we did manage to see several of them and also had dolphins jumping around us at one stage too.

A return to the mainland brought cake, champagne, presents, cocktails, lots of food and a cuban cigar. All in all, a great way to see in my 4th decade.

A couple of days later, Roz

and I dived the famous blue hole. It was an amazing experience, made even better by the sharks prowling around next to us when we were rising back up to the surface. Lunch on a tropical island was good and I especially enjoyed my post-lunch walk, where I saw several a couple of massive iguanas, hundreds of hermit crabs, some frigate birds and several Red-Footed Boobies.

After a week of Sun, Celebrations and Fun it was time to don the backpack again. Next stop Mexico!

Feet
How many pictures have you guys got of your feet?!?! I have to say, whilst not what I'm looking for in a photo (not to denounce the personal tastes of those people who dig it), they look rather better here than on your Peru hiking trip!
