Hi there, we didn't find Chile all that cheap, Bolivia is by far the cheapest S.American country to travel in. I didn't write down exact prices I am afraid but we were probably spending about 60 dollars a day between us. Accomodation cost about 20-25 dollars for a pricate double room, I think dorm bed were about 10-15 dollars.
The buses are not cheap either, especially if you choose long distance ones with a cama or semi-cama seat. Of course this is all relative, we met people who had just come from New Zealand and they thought it was really cheap.
I can't quite remember the name of the hostel we stayed in, in Santiago but it was brilliant! If you look on www.hostelbookers.com you will be able to see the one I mean, it has got nearly 100% satisfaction rates, if you look on the lonely planet thorntree as well it is really useful.
Sorry I haven't been that helpful, I don't have my diary with me!
Have fun, definitely go to Patagonia if you can, it was awesome.
chile on budget Hi, really enjoyed your blog. I am planning to visit Chile in late April this year - most likely 2\3 months stay.
Wondering if you could give me some indication basic prices (food, public transport etc... as well as cheap accommodation. I do not have a plan. Will be arriving in Santiago and then will be moving around wherever it takes my fancy. Tight budget - any hint and advice would mean plenty. Thanx! Hope my trip will be as good as yours.
Feet How many pictures have you guys got of your feet?!?! I have to say, whilst not what I'm looking for in a photo (not to denounce the personal tastes of those people who dig it), they look rather better here than on your Peru hiking trip!
Good luck I just arrived back in the US after going to Spanish School in Guatemala. I plan on attending school again next summer but was thinking of Nicaragua the next time around. So can't wait to see what you have to say in your blog. I will be reading with interest.
