Leon was a success two days ago. Camping gas replenished (after a meticulous search lasting two hours and including much head shaking from the locals) and photos copied to CD. Leon is the major city of this region. As we approached a Commando strategy was hatched (get-in, get-it, get-out) to minimise the discomfort and avoid another Burgos style shock to the system.

The past two days have been highly exciting watching the Spanish play chicken on the N-120. The N-120 is a fast, 100 kilometers per hour, single lane in each direction road that runs directly from east-to-west (the Romans would be proud). It is a road we are now very familiar with as our path has often gone close or crossed it several times. The province of Leon seems to have somewhat over estimated the Pilgrims affinity for this long stretch of tarmac and has routed us right next to it for the last 30 kilometers. The Spaniards game of chicken involves continually overtaking other N-120 users, so straying on to the other side of the road, moving back on to their own side at the last minute. It looks crazy and being four metres from the road side you get a ringside seat to watch the madness. It appears that tomorrow we shall leave over beloved N-120 and head back to the quieter less hair raising tracks in the countryside. It will certainly be sad to leave such a glorious piece of human construction but in time we will get over our loss.

Hi there Pilgrims
Just been catching up on your blog - a good read - I can almost feel the sun on my back and thinking if I can go to Spain to watch the Veluta! Your packs do not look any lighter - are you? I will know you have cracked the language cuando usted comienza a escribir su blog en español! Saludos y feliz caminar
