I had such a fun afternoon yesterday. The place I´m staying is by a lagoon surrounded by sand dunes so I went out dune buggying and sand boarding. So much fun! There were just 4 of us on the trip - me and my 3 new-found American buddies. The driver was a lunatic and I sat up front so it was like a roller coater ride as we went over the top of huge dunes and came flying down terrifying slopes on the other side. Naturally we were all screaming like little girlies.

We then stopped and got the sand boards out and went off down progressively more scary slopes on our stomachs. The funniest moment came when Katy, one of our group, worked up such speed that she fully cleared the slope we were meant to go down, carried on at high speed over another peak and disappeared from sight. Poor thing had gone haring down a HUGE steep slope but loved it. I have some great piccies of the afternoon but I need to get new batteries for my camera (already? - I hope that´s the only reason it´s not working) and work out how to upload them.

It´s a shame you can´t see the detail on this photo as I have just looked over the edge of the dune I´m meant to slide down and have a look of absolute horror on my face!
After we´d finished boarding and haring around we went to watch the sunset from the top of the dunes. Stunning.

It was the birthday of one of the girls in the group so I joined them for dinner last night which was really nice, particularly as they decided to start my birthday celebrations early. Very organised girls had brought birthday candles with them which were put into chocolate brownies so the real birthday girl and me blew them out. I now have the ´birthday lei´which I am meant to wear on my real birthday when I´m away trekking next week.

I had been planning to go down to Nazca early this morning to get a flight over the lines but I am firmly in holiday mode and decided to stay here and chill out instead. Apparently Huacachina is one of the few places where I´ll see so much sun so I am going to chill out in the resort for the morning and catch some sun. I need to be back up in Lima tonight so I think I´ll head off in the afternoon and get a bus back from Ica. As long as I´m back in Lima

by 10 I´ll be fine I think. I´m taking taxis rather than wandering about so it´s safe enough. I´m having no problem finding accommodation so I´m not bothering booking anything ahead. After tonight I´m with the tour company for the next 8 days so all the accommodation etc will be sorted out for me so that´ll be pretty easy.

Having a lovely time but missing everyone at home so please keep me posted with what you´re up to! Next update soon, hopefully tomorrow...
