Some of the retro styles of GTO
Every magazine, news station and newspaper has a fashion segment; well my blog is no different. Since I have been in Guanajaunto I’ve noticed a great range of clothing styles among the folks here. As I stated in my first entry, Guanajaunto is very similar to the US, but it is the little things that make it very interesting. To be 100% honest I didn’t expect people to dress as stylish as they do, seeing how there isn’t a major clothing store or mall anywhere close (Léon is the closest and it is 45 mile away). I’ve seen folks rockin everything from FUBU to Calvin Klein. The thing that is funny is that with all the modern stuff and not so modern stuff. But one thing here is universal> Acid wash is still king. That is right ACID WASHED CLOTHES are on and poppin here in Guanajaunto. No matter if they are 8 or 80, rich or poor, they wear acid wash. And I mean everything is acid washed; jeans, hats, bags, shoes, there may even be acid washed thongs for all I know. Another big throw back is the Cosby sweaters (Note. Cosby sweaters are decorative, thick sweaters in the most outlandish combinations and patterns). Many a Hombre still sports them like it was ‘88> even the ones with the leather patches on them. I can’t front and say I did wear them, but damn it, it is 2005.

Another fashion tid bit is the way folks here wear their pants. For ladies it is skin tight, everyday all day. From the classroom to the boardroom, it’s on. Weather they got a tortilla flat booty or they are thick like Serena Williams or J.Lo, they wear their jeans “painted on” tight> camel toes, panty lines and all. And just to note it is not like 1 out of 10 women rock this style it’s like 9.8 out of 10. Most of the guys here are on that European kick> A lot of white belts, white shoes (loafers not A1’s), tight jeans and extra slim shirts. Then again most guys here are like 160 lbs.

Ultimately the funny thing about fashion is the influence that they derive from. Most older folks have the stereotypical Mexican dress> old school cowboy w/ ponchos and smocks and or fresh from goodwill second hand style. But then there are your funny scenarios.
Yesterday I saw two kids wearing baggy jeans, fitted caps (cocked to the right might I add) long chains (one was the Wu-Tang symbol the other was Ecko) and DO RAGS. That is right the super wanna-be thug look has made its way south of the border. I mean why would a Spanish kid rock a do rag? He isn’t going to get waves nor does he need to “lay down his hair” for anything. To add to that bootleg fashion is ramped here. You want fake pumas, no problem. Need that Authentic Abercrombie and Fitch, well sort of anyway> no sweat. And my favorite, every color FUBU shirt, hat, or jeans you want. Some say fake it to ya make it, so they just make it themselves. The bootlegging doesn’t stop there. Shoes, DVD’s, Mix Tapes, Toys (why was Barney yellow here!) and as well makeup. But hey, you gotta admire the hustle, and I do > I bought 6 DVD’s for 80 pesos > or $7.86 cents.

I guess the hood is the hood> weather it be trailer parks, projects or barrios, people do what they have to, wear what they can and just be. But still to see a guy with a KISS shirt and maroon corduroys is hella funny. Until next time amigos, Peace!

P.S.
Here the Snozberrys really DO taste like Snozberrys. And No, I haven’t been drinking the water.

Now you know that back in college, all that was in your closet was sweaters. Cosby sweaters at that. I use to be like: I have never seen a man with this many sweaters. So I know you fit in over there just fine. Me and Iyon broke up. The girl that you met when you came down to the stl. But the duecer is still pimping candy paint on a duece and a quarter baby. Fuck with duece wild
