here i am. its on the chilly side, no pun intended. i managed to sleep a little on the plane from miami, which was delayed, just like the flight from chicago. but sleeping on planes is never good enough. the seats are uncomfortable, my neck cramps up, my butt falls asleep. maybe if i could afford first class with those fancy seats that recline i wouldnt be complaining. as it is i was in coach. and not sleeping well.
we rode a fancy bus that smelled like lemon cleaner to la universidad andres bello, where we had a brief introduction to the program and the trip on monday. then we met our host families and went home with them. my host mom claudia is very nice, as are my host brothers felipe and ronato. its still a little awkward though, as my spanish is not quite up to par and we only just met this morning. but i was due for a nap. so i took one before almuerzo (lunch). then we just hung out, talked. i unpack the few things i brought. we drove to lider (a supermarket kind of like meijer) and i bought an adaptor for 290 pesos, or roughly 50 cents.
the plan is sleep. i will sleep a lot. then maybe head downtown if its sunny, or buy a tarjeta de multiviaje for the metro, which i will be taking to classes once those start. monday we leave for calama and san pedro de atacama, for which i have to wake up at 345 in the morning. now you understand why i am so stoked for tonight. sleeeeeep. hopefully when we return i will have lots of beautiful pictures from one of the driest deserts in the world.
hasta entonces.
