Lake Area

Italy, Venice to the Lake Region
Lake Como, Domaso
Camping Gardenia

June 5, 2008 It was a very long rainy day driving from Venice to the Lake Region of Italy, Lake Como. This is set in an idyllic landscape with a fine view of the Alps. We are staying in the north town of Domaso at Camping Gardenia right on Lake Como. Wind surfing is very popular here because the weather conditions create great winds for this sport. Several of our neighbors are here with this in mind. It looks like it requires very strong leg muscles to be able to get up-right on the board.
June 6, 2008 It rained all night and today we have Wifi! So it is time to get cranking on the internet. The weather just keeps changing...rain, sun, drizzle. We walked to the tourist information center and learned about the ferry for tomorrow. Then we took a bike ride around town to investigate, before the drizzles returned. This is a valley between mountains, so the weather can change in a heart-beat.
June 7, 2008 Lake Como is shaped like an upside down Y and at the center of the Y is Bellagio. We took the ferry south on Lake Como to Bellagio. The scenery is lovely. The Lake Region is in competition with Cinque Terre for its beauty. The ferry ride is almost 1-1/2 hours, then we began to explore Bellagio. The town is set on a hill (actually the Alps) so we poked up and down hills and shops.
Eventually we found a grand restaurant, San Giovianni, for our last meal in Italy. Bob discovered, much to his dismay, there are no meatballs in Italy! Before returning to the ferry we enjoyed a wonderful Gelato, the ice cream here is so good!
The fast-ferry is our choice to return to Domaso and it is lass than one hour, but now more rain again.

Was that Bob?
This is an area we would like for our next home exchange. It does look beautiful. Not sure it is bikable however. It almost looked like Bob parasailing!
