Day 2 on Palm Beach Island started with the promise of sunshine. I awoke early leaving Liisa to snooze away whilst I sat on the deserted beach watching the last of the sunrise with clouds of yesterday dissipating. I was rewarded with the company of a lone heron starring out to sea probably sizing up his next meal for practically a whole hour. The clouds were clearing nicely and the sun was breaking through so we headed to the coffee bar for breakfast around 11ish, which was a typical continental affair of pastries galore, brioche, a selection of waffles, omelette's made to order and a delicious fruit bar with cold sausage meats and cheeses. We sat at a table closest to the beach and enjoyed the beautiful view and sea breezes while we ate.
Having eaten breakfast late we headed to the beach at mad dogs and English men time with the sun directly above us, but heat and water are a great combination. After priming the seal on the under water camera housing and making sure the camera was safely enclosed, we headed for the water. The under water camera facility provided us with hours of fun, most of
which cannot be posted on the block due to the watershed!!!! Suffice it to say that the water distorts certain images making them appear larger than life and would not have been flattering to either of us, but none the less provided us much laughter on viewing.
After an hour or so of swimming around in the water we sat on the beach to work on our tans and observed three Canadian cessna twin otter sea planes bringing in a new influx of Italian guests. At one point Liisa went in for a dip and noticed right at the waters edge two reef sharks each about two foot long. She shouted for me to grab the camera and once having this she did her Steve Irwin Shark Hunter impression and splashed into the water following them swiftly to catch a good shot of them They were more afraid of us than the other way around, so all toes and limbs remained intact! It soon became too hot, and being careful not to get burnt, we moved in the shade on the sun loungers outside our bungalow and read whilst Josh Groban serenaded us from the iPod speakers.
The
day was drawing to a close rapidly and by evening time we showered quickly and headed to the pier on the other side of the island to watch the beautiful sunset The pier is lined with lit lanterns all the way to the beautiful open sided area at the end which provided an idyllic backdrop to a stunning sunset. We timed it just right and watched the cinematic show of the sky with the soothing sounds of the waves crashing gently against the pier. Once the sunset we took the opportunity to have yet another photo shoot under the soft lighting of the pier.
At dinner we noticed the newly arrived Italian couples, which despite the new influx we still greatly outnumber the staff here, giving us the feeling of our own private island. Now we know how the other half live!!!!
After dinner we sorted out the picture for the blog and then retired for the evening. And so the end of another day in paradise…….
