Reflections of heat aside, we are finding Kolkatas more intimate side. We've walked where our books have suggested, we've strayed when we thought alleys looked interesting. We've eaten the food that is sure to make us sick and sweated through nights with no A/C.

And we're loving it. Of all the places I've been, Al can speak for herself, this seems to be the most in your face 'real' I've ever encountered. Everything here seems chaotic, rushed, over the top sensory overload, but once you get past the horns, smog, crowds, yells and general mass of human consumption, you see simplicity. Everyone and everything here seems to be designed to do one thing. Food vendors make food, beggars beg, car honk, busses pollute, and on and on. The first taste is an all at once onslaught that could drive you mad, but once you can boil everything down you see life in what might be its simplest form.

Having a great time down here. The heat is bearable, barely. Food is amazing, trying to find the best looking street vendors to get a taste of traditional offerings. We're off to Gaya and Bodhgaya tonight and tomorrow, then heading up to Nepal.

Check out the pics of Kolkata!

No iPhones?
We are enjoying your blog and the pictures. What a great learning experience you are having. Wish I could be there too! By the way, the Celtics are playing the Lakers in the NBA finals, but I imagine that is not a real priority there.. Have fun!
