Greece2008

Everything worked out today. We woke up by 5am and were ready for the taxi (12 Euros) when it arrived at 5:30am. Got to the airport ontime and they didn´t even weigh our luggage, much less our backpacks. Phew... since we were surely over the 20 kilos per bag and/or 6 kilos per carry on. The young man in front of us had two bags, so the lady weighed them and at 34 kilos, he was told he owed 138 Euros extra! We arrrived in Athens and boarded our ontime flight to Madrid. They served a decent brunch of cream and mushrooms crepe, spinach pastry, croissant and muffin. We arrived in Madrid with a four hour wait, so we had capuccinos and shopped. The Madrid airport is laid out strangely. They have T1, T2, T3, and T4 terminals, but the T4 terminal where we arrived was a LONG ways from the T1 thru T3 terminals where we needed to go for or flight to Jerez, and is link by both bus and metro. Getting from T4 to T2 was easy, but once in T2 it was impossible to figure out where we would check in if we didn´t already have our tickets (for our flight, they showed checkin at booths 532 thru 557, none of which had a sign indicating the flight!), and our gate was not listed for a long time. Also, food and drinks are much more expensive than we´d been used to. A small, simple chorizo sandwich was 3.70 Euros and a capuccino was 3.50 Euros! Although the plane was a bit late, we boarded and after a brief flight landed in Jerez where my brother-in-law Antonio and his wife Consuelo were waiting for us. We arrived in Chipiona in no time, dropped our bas at the house of a friend of Manoli´s where we´d be staying and spent the evening reminiscing with Manoli´s family and eating spanish goodies. Ah, almost like home. I´ll only make occasional entries after this. The trip has been fantastic and I hope everyone following our adventures has shared some of our fun. Hasta luego!
