Little to do today. Mark and I walked to the front gate of post to take pictures of the Camp sign. It is about a mile and a half to the sign from our tent. The sun was not too high as we began our trek. When we arived some of the workers were polishing the brass letters. The took pictures of us standing be the sign. We gawked for a while and began to hike back - y then the sun was higher and the temperature had risen considerably. It was supposed to be 104 today but the sand and dust cleared exposing the direct sunlight. Generally we do not see the sun as it is blocked by a dust cloud making the air thick and the view hazy. I got my first haircut today at the local barber. The Army has employed locals to cut hair here. Their haircutting skils are poor at best. I asked for my ususal high and tight and ended up with something resembling a wide mowhawk. The soldier next to me was getting a flat top and as his haircut was near completion the barber ran the clippers too close to his head making a valley instead of the plateau he was looking for. I miss Karen, my barber at home. I have yet to have a good haircut since I left St. Marys.
Later we wandered the Indian run market. The Army has hired several concessioniers that peddle local trinkets next to the PX. However most of the local fair is made in China or India and is sold by Indians who are working as third country nationals. There are many Indians and Packastanies working here at Camp Buehring. They cook, clean, work in the PX, and operate the gym. These workers free the soldiers to do missions that can not be outsourced.
