In the heart of LA

We arrived off the plane about 2:00pm on Tuesday 12th May. Immigration was the usual officious, surly experience but there was no lines. After studying the transport options we decided to take a taxi to our motel.

We are staying at the Hollywood Downtowner Motel in Hollywood. it’s a nice location and the hotel is good value, (its cheap, small but clean). Shayla at the desk gave us the low down on where to go in the area.

First stop was to go down to Hollywood, there was a couple of things we noticed:
1. There was a whole lot of freaks around
2. Parts of it is quite dingy
3. The walk of fame has hundreds if not thousands of stars and its quite hard to find stars you know.

Once we got down into the major Hollywood End there were some landmarks we started to recognise. We went to the Wax museum which was pretty good. All in all it was a good way to spend a couple of hours.

On Wednesday we explored downtown and Beverly hills. Downtown didn’t seem crowded, although we did end up in some interesting neighbourhoods which were much better investigated in daytime then at night. Beverly hills and Rodeo drive were interesting and looked a lot more flash. We didn’t buy anything as Brenda showed great restraint.

On Thursday we went to Disneyland. The bus took about 1 Hour 20 Minutes to get there, and then we explored the park. It was quite a quiet time so we didn’t have to queue for too long for the rides. The only exception was Splash Mountain which took about 40 minutes of queuing. My favourite rides were splash mountain and space mountain.

The trip back on the bus sucked. It took a while for the bus to come and it was really crowded. Then as we were about to get on the freeway for the last 20 minutes of the ride (the fast part) the driver announced he was running out of gas. So we limped through the suburbs trying to get to the city centre. I was expecting we would stop in some kind of dangerous gangland, but luckily the bus made it into town.

On Friday we took the train to LAX (which took about 2 hours, so be warned) and picked up the car. Poor Brenda had a foot infection so she suffered through the trip. At LAX we picked up our car ready for our trip to San Francisco
