fun with the fiesta
(l-r) diego, miguel, fiesta, angie ZA-CA-TE-CAS (say it….out loud!) I must admit, it’s probably the ‘funnest’ Mexican Town word to say, I know… ☺ and it was just lovely.
We rented a car!!! Travelling with an New Mexican, Canadian, Australian and myself… and since Michael (Ozzie) and I drive on the other side of the road… we just so happen to drive the bulk of the way. YUP… I drove! The first time in like, months, and on the wrong side of the road too! OOH and… with a manual! On crazy Mexican roads! … *calming down*
So that was us (Diego, Angie, Michael and i), left Friday afternoon, and thanks to my supposed ‘lead foot’ we got there by 10:30 ish, I must admit the ‘lead foot’ ALMOST lead us right through Zacatecas and yond’r on to Mexico City/ Guadalupe (whoops)
We had a quite one that night, well, we were suppose to…. Pero. Angie and I took a night stroll around the amazingly stunning town of Zacatecas, which mind you is just as stunning in the day… it’s just too pretty to be a town (supposedly it’s protected by some organization… which makes sense) You know how you hear good things about
b&W puppies
for you steven :) a city, and expect… well a good thing, this town not only meets those expectations but also exceeds them ☺ And went to a funky lil’ bar, that served complimentary popcorn… and relatively potent cocktails, cheap and not nasty, but mean. Anyways one was more than enough for angie (you’ll have to ask her about that one) and well two for me, well, hits the spot ☺
After an unpredicted late night, I woke up early, (as Jade does), and went for a morning stroll to the local markets and bakery. It’s a relatively sleepy town, I think I was out before most of the markets. Getting back to a half awake rest of the room (the boys), we headed off to our sightsee, to the highly artesian filled museum, to the infamous mine, to Italian restaurant for a late lunch (as Italians do it*), and la bufa for the sunset. ☺ Beautiful city, beautiful day… and the night… was well ‘beautiful’ as well. Margarita night at the Hostel, and danced all night in a cave/ mine… *sigh* good times.
The morning sunrise after a couple hours sleep wasn’t the easiest to get up for, but well worth
seeing this beautiful town wake to a new day from the good times of the nightlife. With French toast, a cup of tea, and feeling like nanna’s with out Mexican blankets wrapped around us, it was one of ‘those moments’. Clock out time was 12:00, we woke up 12:05, NOT GOOD, but before you know it, we were on our way to the ruines ‘La Quemada’. And in a blink… or two… hundred, we were up the top and back down again. Driving home to meet our deadline of the car rental place, 11pm, and soon took over with the tank on E, initially running into a petrol station with premium instead of unleaded, and after hearts pounding for a decent 30 mins or so, we hit a gas station, lil did we know it was only LPG gas! So dying on the inside, we kept driving for some 100 metres and there it was, our lifesaver ‘PEMEX’
After a productive, enjoyable, visit to the Zacatecan state, we got back with a couple of hours spare, and left over petrol money to have one last decent meal ☺ At our favourite local Margarita Restaurant ☺☺☺
I plan to
beautiful
the sunset and angie of course rest for 3 weeks now before my 3 months travelling ☺
