After a rather difficult bus trip to Monteverde, we were keen to make the most of our stay here, and to see as much of the cloud forest and wildlife as possible... First fact you need to know about Monteverde: it´s cold... well, compared to where we´d been to so far anyway. I had to get trousers and jumpers out of my bag! What´s that all about?! And when it rains, it RAINS- not for long, but it pours! Anyway, our first stop was the frog pond, where we saw al different types of... you´ll have guessed, frogs. Some of them big, some of them smal, some harmless, some deadly, which made us a bit frightened for our walk in the cloud forest the next day. After the frog pond, we went to a sort of butterfly farm where you´d be in a big enclosure with lots of them... which freaked me out big time! I know I know, how silly am I? But I couldn´t help it... At some stage I got into an enclosure and I screamed when something fell on my shoulder. turned out it was a raindrop... I will have a heart attack one day! It made
the employees in there laugh though!
Saturday was our cloud forest day, in the Reserve Santa Elena- absolutely gorgeous forest, and it was like we had it all to ourselves as we were there by 7... well, us and a few millions bugs, insects and animals! We did see a lot of birds, but unfortunately no monkeys, and thankfully, no tarentula!!! I´m in no hurry whatsoever to see one of those! The plants really surprised me by their size- basicaly, they´re HUGE!!! ´
On Sunday, Hannah and I went zip wiring in the forest (and very often, over it!)- good fun, but not half as scary as I thought it would be. I´ve got a video, hopefully I´ll be able to download it on here at some stage so you can see how high we were...
After that we went for a walk in the cloud forest where there were very high bridges, giving us a great view over the forest.
Monday was dedicated to my favourite Costa Rican activity: taking the bus! We went to La Fortuna, and it was another bumpy ride on mud tracks... saying we were dusty by the end of it is
the understatement of the century! I love riding through Costa Rica- it´s very hilly (yes, another new word!) and green, which I didn´t expect (I don´t know what I expected really!).
Once we got to La Fortuna, we went to the wórld famous Mr Lava Lava´s hostel, and within an hour we were on our way to Arenal Volcano, one of the few active volcanoes in the world... We waited until it was dark and we got to see lava coming out of the crater.. Bit scary when you considered that we were only 1.5 km from it! No pics though, my camera wouldn´t have any of it!
Tuesday was another reserve day, El Silencio this time- another lovely tropical forest, and we got to see a toucan! Woo hoo! There were also some weird wild turkeys hanging around in the trees and making weird noises... After that we had a quick dip in a hot spring, which was a first for me- I swear I don´t even have baths that hot!
I´m now back in San Jose, we came back yesterday because the girls had their flight to Vancouver from here this morning... So it´s the beginning
of the solo adventure for me, which can only mean 1 thing- get ready to hear ´and then I got lost´ an AWFUL lot!
Thanks Girls for all you´ve taugh me over the last couple of weeks, it´s been great fun starting my trip with you! I´ve just done some professional packing, you´d want to see how organised my stuff is, even my daypack... you´d be proud! Have fun in Vancouver and NY, and a safe trip home... I´ll miss you XXXX

Yeah I know, you can´t actually see the lake...
I´m scared...
