Edit Blog Post

Hello everyone! It has been almost a month since my last entry--I have been away from the Internet a lot, as I have been on SPRING BREAK! Yes, I finally finished some gruesome finals (essays, short answers, multiple choice...) and went off to embark on a 20 day Spring Break trip; not too shabby. I am now back in the US, but feel the need to complete this blog, so everyday I will write about one of my trips, until this blog has come to an end. First up: Capri and Pompeii!

Capri was our last 'horrah' for everyone in the program to be together. We had the entire hotel for 26 students, and our prof and some of his friends. It was so relaxing. Capri, an island off of Naples doesn't have a museum in site, and is simply for hiking, swimming, and eating. Ohhh the good life!! It ended up raining the majority of the four days we were there (of course, the rain follows me everywhere...), but I made the best of it. I did one hike in the rain and had no umbrella, making it quite the journey home, soaking wet. I might as well have gotten my shampoo out I was so drenched in water!! Nevertheless, the scenery was beautiful. Blue water, palm trees, beach and amazing trails along the way. I warmed up with many cappuccinos, and had a scrumptious dinner overlooking the water with wine. The second day we were there, our prof hosted a pizza party for us where everyone appropriately got dressed into Roman togas and had a blast! I got to know more people I wasn't familiar with as I wanted to be, everyone talked to everyone no matter what "friendship circle" they were in, and our prof gave us a wonderful time!

One of the highlights though of Capri was the Blue Grotto. It was a pretty grotto full of water so blue, you would think someone must have dyed it that color, but it really is just nature at its' finest. The entire class decided to go, as tiny row boats moved us into the grotto, with our heads ducked in through the entrance. The other highlights had to be the island of Anacapri, which is just a 10 minute bus ride away, off of a cliff. I did a fantastic hike from Anacapri to Capri down a set of stairs the Greeks built, and caught some great views, while passing by cute little perfume shops, what Capri/Anacapri are known for. One of the best views was caught by taking a chair lift up to the highest point in Anacapri. It overlooked the sea, and both of the islands! Lastly, in Anacapri, I met a man who hand built sandals in front of his clients. He built me a pair of pink/silver/black braided sandals, and I got a pair for my mom. He was the nicest man, full of life, and they are something I will never forget. Capri and Anacapri were so tiny, yet so full of life.

After hiking/eating, another aspect of the trip I will never forget--we stayed in a hotel!! Not a hostel! Ohh how I love my sleep.

A quick note--before Capri, we stopped in Pompeii on our way! It was tiny, but pretty. The whole area is run down from the volcano, and it was very cool to see what the town once looked like in photos, and what it looks like now. Walking in the ruins, such as through the baker's room, or the market, it was hard to believe people actually lived there at one point. We're probably only in Pompeii for four hours, but it was well worth it.

After Capri was Paris--stay tuned!!
