Bonjour everyone! Yes...France! I know I said I would write another blog in a week, and here I am (typical Megan) and it has been 12 days, but hey, at least I didn't make it to the two week mark!! On a quick note-the layout of this entry is kind of funky, but I had so many photos to include, that it's just going to have to be that way 😊 After the lovely vacation on the isle of Capri, two girlfriends and I traveled our way to Paris, France! Now the one thing that shocked me about this city: it's HUGE!! I had no idea the city was so big! After waking up at 3:45 am, an hour and a half bus ride to the center of the city, and a crazy walk to our hotel, we finally were able to explore. Our first destination? The Tower of course!!
Eifel Tower is just beautiful. We went to the top at night (the best time to view the city) and took some amazing photos! It made the three of us feel like little girls when we saw it lit up at night (every ten minutes on the hour), and it
felt like movie--it was completely surreal! Something I have seen so many times in photos and in movies was right in front of my very eyes. It literally glittered. And how could we resist? Yep, we had crepes in front of the Tower for a quick snack on one of the four days we were there. We were TRUE Parisians (right!!) The view from the top is incredible. You get to view the whole city, and it tells you exactly what you're looking at and it even gives the distance away from certain cities from the point your standing at. I can't remember how far Seattle was, but let's just say...it made me a little homesick to know I was that far! In addition to the Tower, we went to the Arch di Triomphe--quite the sight at night!!!
One of the days we dedicated entirely to the Louvre. This museum is...it's hard to put into words! Overwhelming? Stunning? Out of this world? I guess all of those would describe it! We took a guided tour and saw all of the main exhibits; Mona Lisa, the Sphynx, Corronation of Napoleon. We then went off our own, and thanks to my
guide book, saw some things I wouldn't have normally looked it, such as some still life photos, and of course, paintings from Carvagio, one of my favorite painters. The Louvre was tiring, and I'd recommend more than one day for it. We had to take a lunch break, and had a French lunch, and explored the area more. It was really fun to be in a new culture, but I kept wanting to say Ciao, and then of course, when back in Roma, I kept wanting to say Bonjour! Anyway...as for the Mona Lisa, definitely smaller than I thought, but once again, SURREAL to see!!
One of the other four days, we went to Notre Dame. The church inside is gloriously decorated, and beautiful. Though I have to say after being in a few dozen churches in Roma, I was kind of immune. The best part of the church was walking to the top and seeing the Bell Tower. Thoughts of the novel appeared in head, and the views were just like that of the Eifel-breathtaking.
Some other random things: We went to Moulin Rouge (not much to see except the building), a Dali museum (that man is
crazy!), Picasso museum, one of the churches from The Davinci Code (St. Supplice with the Rose Line) and viewed the Luxemburg Gardens for an afternoon stroll, and walked through some of the artsy villages. The best excursion though? None other than EURO DISNEY!! Yes, I did it. I am a Disney Freak-how could I not? I dragged my friend Ellen to Euro Disney for our last day in Paris, and we had an absolute blast!! After viewing multiple museums, it was nice to just think about rides, Mickey, food, and kid-like fun! Our toughest question of the day--which ride should we go on next? We did both MGM Studios and Magic Kingdom in one day (we're pros!! we did all the rides!!), and fell asleep VERY quickly that night. It was a long day, with a 4AM wakeup call, and it was 100% worth it. In fact, Euro Disney was one of my favorite memories of the trip. It was a great break from the exhausting traveling, and we acted like kids all day!!
Overall, Paris was an incredible experience. I had a lot of "oh my gosh moments." Who knew I would be able to see all of
these things I have only ever heard about? Never did I dream that I would be walking through the Louvre, eating crepes in Paris, and seeing the Tower at night?? I feel nothing but lucky. Paris was one of my favorite cities. Everything about it was neat-the architecture, the people, the food, the setting in general.
