Ok so since I my last entry I have had some much needed rest and experienced a kind of Italy that everyone must. I walked around the Piazza Duomo yesterday and the smell of Leather just fills the air because there are merchant tents, mostly selling leather products cause apparently Italy is known for their leather. Man if I had all the money in the world to spend I could get a super nice leather jacket for like 50 bucks. But I dont so I have to be good. Maybe a leather wallet for 10 euro or even a Prada bag off the sidewalk would suffice. So not only can you smell the leather, but you can totally smell the trattorias making some awsome pasta dishes. I enjoyed authentic lasagne al forno. wow. it was amazing. I burned the crap out of my tongue but thats ok. I fell into some interesting things yesterday though...first off i stumbled upon a demonstration of women (and some men) in the city square screaming what I think were protests against domestic abuse. That was cool. I found out later in the day that it was national italian womens day and all the museums were free. I was really bummed because had I known that I would have taken in a museum that day. But que sera, sera. So after meandering around for a couple hours and taking in some amazing mint chocolate gelato, i headed back to the hostel for some r and r. Later in the evening I met one of my roomates who incidentally is doing the same thing I am only in five weeks instead of ten. Pretty cool. We decided to treato ourselves to a delicious dinner, I had a great pizza with ham and artichokes and mushrooms. Yeah this coming from the girl who doesnt ever eat pizza, I know, I know. But when in Italy, you must eat the pizza. They have it going on. After dinner the food and exhaustion had the better of me, we watched some ridiculous italian tv and I passed out around 10. HA.

Today was cool. Elizabeth (my roommate) and I took a train to see the Cinque Terre. So beautiful. When you get off the train you are right on the ocean. To either side of you are huge cliffs and little walkways along the cliffs. The walkways lead to each of the little villages inside the Cinque Terre (translation: Five Villages) on the coast of the mediterranean. Apparently they are the lost treasure of the Italian Riviera. It was about a five mile walk and when we reached the center village of Consiglia, we stopped for lunch in a cafe where I had a salami and mozzarella panini. Mmmmm. It wouls have been nicer if it had not been pouring rain all day and we did not have to trudge through the muddy trails along the mountain, but it was still an amazing adventure I would trade for anything in the world. I did stop in Pisa, but I could not see the tower from the train station. I figure, it is only a tower, I have seen a million pictures and well its not in my list of priorities. So anyway, the museums are all closed tomorrow, but the Santa Croce is not so I will probably check that out and maybe some more gelato. Hehe. Ciao bella.
