the not-so skydiving effort

I know some of you have heard that I didn’t go skydiving. For those of you that haven’t heard, here’s the story. The day before skydiving I woke up and didn’t feel 100%. I was hoping I just had a bug of some kind and it would pass. I hiked Table Mountain, which was amazing, and I felt fine. That evening was the ballet, so I got dressed up and headed out. Around intermission I started feeling really sick so I got a taxi back to the ship. As soon as I was in my room I was really ill and I actually passed out. I was found and taken down to the hospital, where I remained for the next 15 hours. I was violently ill for a good 12 of those 15 hours and I was finally sent back when I could keep down fluids and no longer needed an IV. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had and I’ve never been that sick in my entire life. I guess it was just some kind of awful food poisoning, because I feel fine today. Unfortunately however the ship doctor put me in quarantine for 48 hours which effectively means I miss the rest of my time in Cape Town. I missed skydiving because I was in the hospital (and I still had to pay for it), and I’ve been sitting in my room all day today doing nothing because I don’t have internet, my computer is dead and I share books with one of my classmates and he is in possession of 90% of them right now. So I’ve decided I’m breaking out. I don’t know what the consequences are of breaking quarantine, but I really don’t care. I need to find internet to do research and post this blog and upload pictures and check my email. If they make me sit in my room for another 2 days after we’re at sea, then I’ll sit in my room. I just can’t handle knowing Cape Town is literally just out my window and I’m stuck in this little room. And the worst part is I have all of my meals brought to me and it consists of a piece of burnt toast for breakfast, 2 pieces of bread, broth and 2 apples for lunch and 3 pieces of bread, broth and 3 apples for dinner! I’m not
giant turtles!giant turtles!giant turtles!

these are only found on the seychelles and galapagos islands
sure how I’m supposed to get better when all I’m eating is bread and apples, but that’s not my call. Luckily my friends have been sneaking me food, so I’ve at least eaten some dessert and gummy bears!

So anyway, that’s my not-so-fun Cape Town story from the last 2 days. I was a bit devastated about missing 2 days in the port I was looking forward to most, but there’s not much I can do about being sick. We have to be on the boat by 4pm tomorrow, so I’ll just try to cram in as much as I possibly can into those few hours. First on my list is going to the market and buying some jewelry!

Hope everyone at home is doing well. I wish I had more exciting stories for you all! Maybe next time… xoxo

message from Dad
I have mixed emotions about you missing the sky diving. As for the sickness, it was probably the ballet. Keep up the great blogging. I love reading about your adventures. Bebe and Lupe say Hi !

Excellent work on breaking out. I trust you built a tunnel behind your toilet, as guided by your tattoo, conscripted your puerta rican roomate to cover for you and travelled through the walls.... et cetera. ;-)
