Me and the two guys ( Evan and George) I was living with made the most of our time in Wanaka and did a good hike every weekend. The weather there was consistently warm and beautiful so it wasn't too hard to get out and hit the trails. I decided to leave Wanaka sooner than I expected because I was told by several people that if I want to head to South East Asia I must do it before the monsoon season, which begins in June. So to give myself enough time in Asia I realized I better start rapping up my New Zealand adventures. I worked on the construction site for 6 weeks and it is quite a nice thought that I will not work again until I am home in October. Hopefully my money will last.

After leaving Wanaka, Evan and I went straight to Wanaka to do a bungy jump. Since arriving in New Zealand I have been thinking about this Nevis Bungy jump. A New Zealander, AJ Hackett, invented the bungy so it is fitting that New Zealand has the 3rd highest bungy in the world. It is 134 meters high (about 400ft) dropping from a pod on a wire into a deep canyon. Everytime I even thought about doing it my heart rate would noticeably climb. An Irish guy that I met in Auckland explained his theories of bungy jumping to me that now make a lot of sense. He said the whole thing does not make any sense to the brain and every natural instinct you have is telling you that jumping is not a good idea. So when you do in fact make the decision to jump a good part of your brain cannot not grasp what the hell is actually happening so it kind of takes off for a while and it doesn't return until you feel the pull of the cord bringing you back up. Kind of made sense since I cant quite remember the first few seconds of falling.

Our hut for the night in the bottom right hand corner. Slightly more upscale than our accomodations the night prior, which was sleeping out in the open with sand flies and a possum.
