Well, I have spent an entire week in Spain, and let me tell you it feels as though it has been a month. It has been pretty great though. I haven't officially registered for classes yet, but I had my "entrevista," or interview with the Univeristy of Malaga academic team about what I should take. The academic team consists of Jose Manuel and Sebastian, a spanish dynamic duo or sorts. They are absolutely hilarious. I guess Sebastion even broke dance during someone else's interview, but it is a skill I have yet to witness. Apparently attendence isn't a big deal here whatsoever, so they want us to somewhat try these classes to see if we like them before we register. I think that I am set though. I am taking an advanced Spanish Lanuage course, a Contemporary Spain course (which is apparently the hardest class that I will have: 9 essays!), a Spanish Literature course, and a photography class (yeah!!). I'm excited to see what they are like, and to meet the spanish students.

This week I also had to take a an assesment exam, based entirely on spanish grammar. Yeah...I'll find out on monday how I did, but guessing was the name of the game for quite a few of those questions. We'll see. This week we have also met the three students who are here for the year (meaning they have already been here for a semester). They are some pretty cool kids, and of course they took us out, because they already know where to go. Spanish clubs are interesting, really small with lot's of smoke. Luckily we weren't there very long. Also, the clubs and bars here are known to stay open until seven in the morning, and one of the group members who runs in the morning definitely got leared at by some drunkards. We have a resturant that we go to pretty often. I mentioned it in my first entry, El Pimpi. They have the best little salmon sandwiches that I have ever tasted. Oh man, the are are called Ahumados and they are amazing.

Yesterday we went on a guided tour around the city, and our tour guide was a very cute old spanish man; complete with mustache. He had some really interesting things to say from what I understood, and he took us to La Catedral (Cathedral), Alcazaba (a military fortress/palace),

The church is amazing, and is actually going through a reconstruction right now.
and where Picasso used to live. Obviously there were a great deal of picture opportunities, except for Picasso's place where photography was prohibited. Afterwards we went back to the university for lunch, which sadly was the last day for free lunches; then we watched a spanish movie called, "El otro lado de la cama," or "the other side of the bed." So not the most morally upstanding movie. It was basically about these couples who cheated on each other, with each other. Yeah...and it was also a musical. Let's just say that I laughed a lot, rolled my eyes a lot, and learned a lot of new words.

Last night we went out again to el Pimpi, then to what is called El botellon. It is basically where a street is closed off at around 11pm (it might be earlier, but that is when people start to show up), and pretty much every young person in malaga-or at least a lot- bring bottles of their own liquor (in plastic sacks) and coca-cola (some even their own glasses and ice). Then they drink and mingle 'til the early hours. Last night, however, it started to sprinkle and a phenonmenon like
Mary and JesusMary and JesusMary and Jesus

This statue is actually a replica, but there are certain features setting it apart as unique from the original: such as the prescence of a cherub, and the direction of Christ's body
no other occurred: the malaguenos ran with their sacks and coke and huddled under any edifice they could find for shelter. It was hilarious, especially since it wasn't even really raining, but I guess they just aren't used to rain at all here. Luckily, I had my video camera and I think I managed to catch a little of it for you guys, but this is the first time I have used my camera and it was pretty dark. Still, you can take a look for yourself, because it was pretty funny.

Quick side note: My drinking consists solely of coca-cola and water, no alcohal included...just for those of you who were wondering.

So enjoy the pictures and video, and hopefully I will have more for you soon!!

Also, thanks for all your messages, I love reading them!!

Love and miss you all,
jamie

Kate was posing for me, so I wouldn't just have a ton of boring pictures of brick walkways.
