American Legend Riders Post 370
Some of our group that could make it on the excursion Our American Legion Riders from Post 370 in Overland Park got together to go see the Patriot Chopper. The Patriot Bike is a National Guard theme chopper built by OCC (Orange County Choppers). It was built on the show American Chopper.
We met at 11:30am on Saturday morning. I had to hurry, as I needed to put in a couple hours that morning at work, I work for that American Legion Post. But I got to the post in plenty of time to join the group for the ride.
It was in the low 40’s when we left for Cabela’s a local sporting goods superstore. Cabela’s was hosting the bike viewing. It took a little while to get there as we were separated by stoplights on the way. BTW guys, the stoplight at Johnson Drive and Antioch were you waited forever for the light to change, remember??? The sensor does not work in that far right lane. It doesn’t work for my Jeep either. I have gotten stuck there before; you need to move over to the other lane its sensor works. That is my usual route to work and back home.
It was a cold ride. We
pulled up at Cabela’s and parked out in Timbuktu. As we were taking helmets off and getting ready for the hike in another rider pulls in to join us. It’s Fishin Fred. I will never forget Fishin Fred. This is one hardcore MF, I am feeling like a total wimp. The obvious thing everyone notices is that FF has a boot on his left foot. Not a leather boot, but one of those protective boot/cast things they put on your foot when you break your ankle. Someone said something about his foot getting cold? And he responds that he is trying to save a toe, but the boot is minor. This guy is on an intravenous drip. An I.V. He pulls up his Joe Rocket jacket and shows us a pouch attached around his waist, inside is an IV bag with a long tube that enters his body somewhere (no one asked). Its cold out there and we need to wait while FF untangles his IV and gets all his body parts together for the hike to the store.
The bike was awesome. Hand grenades, shells, an M16 are all props on the bike. The NG had a competition
amoung its members for contributions of ideas on the bike. The top 20 ideas were presented to OCC to incorporate into the bike. I took a lot of pictures and we got a couple group pictures with the bike. The National Guardsmen that were there with the bike moved it for a better angle and took down the ropes that were keeping the crowd back so we could get closer to the bike. But none of us wanted to get close enough to possibly scratch it. The gas tank listed every war that the National Guard had served in.
From there most of the group went to get hamburgers at the Cheeseburger Factory in the Legends, but I headed home to install my new trunk. It was already after 1PM and I would have been late for the LOH Maintenance Class at Central HD South.
Here is the blog on my installation of the trunk.
08 Trunk installation on my 2005 883 Harley Davidson Sportster, Effie I am so excited, I am getting ready for another great year of traveling.

Good times!
Hi, I own the Patriot Chopper now, and it's cool to see posts like this from when it was made. I'm by Des Moines and this is the closest event I've seen where it was featured. Looks like you guys had a fun time - Love it :)
