Did I mention it was a very relaxing weekend?

Luckily, we arrived in Rimini Friday night. I say “luckily” because it had gotten dark while we were on the train, and we got off one stop too early. Not all the stops are big stations; most of them are just little platforms with a single sign, and since they weren’t announcing the stops, and we had lost count and we couldn’t see the sign, we had all gotten off the train. The conductor stuck his head out, and Dr. Quinn asked if this was our stop. It wasn’t, so we had to quickly jump on the train again.

Rimini is a small town on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a more popular place during the summer, but a little empty in the middle of October. We went down to the beach Friday night. It was a little chilly, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity see how cold the water was. I think Nathan and I were the only brave ones to stick our feet in.

The next morning, we slept in and then spent the day on the beach. I didn’t plan on sleeping in.

Megann and I
Brent wanted to get up early and watch the sun rise on the beach, and Nathan, Sarah and I were going to get up and go with him. I ended up turning my alarm off and going back to sleep. At least Brent and Sarah made it…but the sun never really rose. It was just kind of grey all day. But it wasn’t raining and it wasn’t that cold, so when we all eventually woke up and made it to the beach, the guys felt that they had to go swimming in the sea.

I didn’t have the best luck with the whole train traveling on this trip. On the way back to Rome on Saturday, we had to switch trains in Bologna. Sarah and I went to the restroom, and there should have been plenty of time for us to do so. But there was a little line at the restroom, and then the platform that our train was arriving was changed. We went to the platform where the train was originally arriving, and the sign said to Milan. We ran downstairs and checked the schedule and asked someone, and they told us platform eight. So we ran

from platform three to platform eight, where again, the sign said to Milan. So again we asked someone and she looked at the screen and told us six. We ran downstairs again and ran to platform six. As we’re getting on the train, which the sign, by the way, said to Naples, but we figure you have to go through Rome to get to Naples, a guy standing in the doorway told us this wasn’t our train. Okay, I try not to panic very often, but I was getting a little worried. I was trying to figure out what we would need to do if the train had already left when we saw a conductor and Sarah asked him. He said this was our train, so we jumped on with only a minute to spare, and headed toward our car. At least we were headed somewhere…even though I was still a little worried…and then we saw Ryan, who was walking through the cars, looking for us. When we eventually made it to our seats, Nathan said that the train had changed platforms last minute and that they had to make a mad dash for it. Ryan had ran to the

restroom looking for us, about the time that we were running around like crazy looking for the platform...somehow the only three panicked people running around the train station had managed to miss each other. So, I guess the moral of this story is learn to use the restroom on the train…

To Katie, Our Architect at Heart
Thank you for the personal beach photo. Love it. We know you are an architect at heart because you put the flip flops in for a scale reference. Have fun and stay safe. We miss you.
