Mr. Clean!
Yes, its mr clean auf deutsch! Dont know how they came up with the name though, because the translation is master proper. Oh well, Its detergent and a name i trust. SAFE. Hello all,
Another great day in Hamburg. Didn't rain like it was supposed to (YAY) so that made for a pleasant trip to and from school. We were all having mixed feelings about having to wake up at 730 for class once again, but once I got Tylenol in my system (woke up with my head pounding- not good, luckily bryan had tylenol) it was off to Colon! We got there by UBahn easily and it only took about 10- 15 minutes, including walking and UBahn. There is a pretty amazing coffee shop on the end of Colonnaden, so we got breakfast and coffee there before class. There are even benches outside where we sat and ate before it was time to go to class. Colonnaden is kind of an upscale area, i would compare it closely with the Promenade in Marlton/Voorhees.. whichever it is over there. Its reeeally pretty and relaxed.
Class was great- perfect for my level. It is basically a continuation of 305- same book and everything! The class has about 15 people in it and they are from all over the world- the ones I know are China, South Korea, Guatemala, Spain, New York, and California. I am one of three americans. Everyone is very friendly and the teacher is really nice, Young guy, casually dressed. It definetely wasnt a 'suit' setting, very laid back. I dont know how Bryan and Mike's class went, but I heard they might try and switch to a lower level (theyre only one tier below me, but they say its really hard) I can see why they say that, because its taking me a bit to catch up as well. We came in on the middle of the course, The others started a long time ago and I was one of maybe 5 new people. They all had homework to go over and I was obviously out of the loop, but all is well.
After class, I had a few more 'firsts' I went to eat all alone, which I didnt care about but was a little scary. I went to McDonalds.. i know, very ethnic. At that point I was starving, it being 2 pm; my 8am croissant had left me. I had Chicken selects, which was actually so much better here than they are at home! Most chicken orders are made to order, so they give you your drink and fries, and a number card to put on your table. The cashier brings you your food when its ready- so cool. After eating I thought I was going nuts- no trash cans. Now I know Germany is very 'green' and all, but I never expected what I saw. There was a shelving unit on either side of the restaurant where you slide your tray in, with all the trash on it, and you put your cups on top of the unit (to be recycled, i guess) They take sorting trash very seriously here. Next, I went to the Apotheke (Pharmacy). In Germany, you cant just walk in, pick up a bottle of tylenol, pay, and leave. Here, in order to buy Medicine, you must go up to a pharmacist and tell you what you need. They are also better than American pharmacists- they are like a mix between a pharmacist and a doctor, they are very helpful. I got my ibuprofen and was happy. They also dont come in bottles, they are in horizontal boxes and the meds punch out, kind of like a sudafed box. Big achievment of the early afternoon- navigating the UBahn by myself, with success.
I came home, rested for a little while, then went back out, determined to get at least some of the remaining things I need. I went to Real (pronounced Ray ahl) Which is like a walmart, it has everything. There I got my conditioner, detergent, towels, and some snacks. I also found froot loops!!! I was obviously elated, but I have yet to see if they are any good. I also found Stilles Wasser (regular water, not mineral carbonated water) and was excited. I got a big bottle. Upon checkout, I remembered a very important thing- they dont give you bags. Luckily, you could buy them. They werent expensive, but you are expected to use them over and over (green place, huh?) So the cost was only the one time. The next task was carrying home 4 heavy bags... and im guessing the distance is between 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile.. give or take. Not really good at estimating those things. But one thing is certain, I dont think I have to worry about muscle tone in my arms... I just need to keep buying heavy things.. haha. I sure walk enough....
Well the night is young, and I have alot of homework to do, but just thought I'd give you all an update. Talk to you soon!
Love, J

Viel Spass beim Deutsch lernen!
