So today was day two. This morning I rode the bus to school. I used Elise's old bus card so I didn't have to pay. My first class was math. It's funny here they call math class maths but it sounds like they are saying mass! So you can I was very confused when one of the kids in my class told me we had mass next. I've been very busy with school and surfing and have been very tired.
I dropped DT today and right now I'm at school during my free period. School is school, nothing special. I'm enjoying most of my classes so far. The most confusing one is physics. I dont really understand whats going on. The teacher is pretty relaxed and we mess around a lot. Yesterday was the first day that I haven't surfed since I got here. It was very hot and extremely humid in the morning and in the afternoon it became quite stormy with rain and lightning. The storm lasted throughout the night and into today. It has been raining all day today too. It's very nice having it be a bit cooler. I have to admit that there were 2
times today when I actually started to get cold. It was only for a second but I think that I'm starting to acclimate. Here is another strange thing that they do here: They call erasers rubbers!!! This was a very funny discovery. I heard a kid ask someone if he could borrow their rubber? Another one is cantelope is called rockmelon and peppers are called capsicum. boardshorts are boardies. Rashguards are rashies. Wetsuits are wetties.
Next period I have geography. This is a good class. Its not only about learning maps but also about the world. E.G. yesterday we learned about weather patterns around Sydney. Our teacher told us that we would have a storm and why. It's very confusing stuff but I'm enjoying it. Next week I have my first early morning class. It's extension maths and it starts at 8:00. It takes an hour to get to school every morning so I'll have to leave by 7:00. Luckily I have this class only once a fortnight. (They use this word a lot here.) I have chapal for the first time today. That will be interesting. I must say I'm actually curious about what its going to be
like.
Monday there is a swim carnival. This is where all the houses compete in different swimming contests. (There are 4 houses just like in Harry Potter. My house name is called bradfield.) All the students under year 11 have to wear school swimwear which is a speedo or a one piece bathing suit. Years 11-12 can wear boardshorts. We thought it would be pretty sweet if I wore waterwings, an inter tube, and tear-off boardies. Somehow though, I dont think this would go over very well. I think though that I'm not going to go to this as I'm going into Sydney with the Santangelos to get a tour of the city. That will be fun. I've never really seen Sydney.
There are only 30-40 kids in year 11. So its hard to find some cool kids that I'd like to hang out with. I've befriended a couple of kids but there aren't many. The thing that sucks though is that there are probably only 15 girls or so and so that is a very bad ratio. One thing that is essential for happiness is a good ratio. I'm so happy that it's Friday. I'm so ready
Giant Mango
I love mangos and this is the biggest mango I've ever seen! for a break. Hopefully I wont get too much homework.
I just got home and ate a bunch of passion fruit yogurt. It was so good. Later I'm gonna go for a surf with Richard. I made some friends that surf and they invited me to come surf with them sometime. So that'll be fun just need to plan it out. Life's good and I've been doing so much lately. I haven't gotten a chance to rest.
Surf was fun. Some real mellow longboarding at Palmies. Only 3 other guys out. Surfed for over an hour on Richards Mctavish.
They have the best fruit here! Giant mangos, tons of bannanas, and really good peaches. That was one thing I missed back at home was good fruit.
Last night we made pesto, hummus, and pizza. All were very good. We're going to buy some blackberries and make a pie. Hopefully I'll get some surf pics up soon. Hope everything is good at home.
